John grew up involved in scouting, church choir, his high school band, and family vacations. John graduated from Southeast High School in Kan- sas City, Mo. in 1960. He then attended Central Mis- souri State University in Warrensburg, Mo., and he Discharges 6 graduated in 1964 with a Bachelors degree in Educa- Sympathy 6 tion, which prepared him to teach Kindergarten through twelfth grade. His first teaching job was in Iowa, where Our Mission he taught Kindergarten, fifth and sixth grade. John and generation. Carolyn moved to Bolivar in 1992, and he became a teacher in the Bolivar school system, teaching third and fourth grade. He enjoyed reading to his students, he saw it as an introduc- Our Values tion to good literature. John’s favorite book is “The Yearling” by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. I am... He met his lovely bride to be, Carolyn Hosack, at church, where his mother asked him, “Why haven’t you ever dated her.” The couple both attended Southeast High School, and after graduation and two years of college, they were married in Kansas City, June 16, 1962. Their home was filled with children, four of their own, two girls and two boys, and seven foster children. One of the couples foster children has remained close to them. John has been a part of the CMHCF family since April 2016. His hobbies included sing- ing in church, cooking and baking, because his mother and grandmother had taught him, and gardening. When he was a boy his parents had a large garden, so he would load up his wag- on and go through the neighborhood and sell produce. Congratulations, John, on being se- lected as our first Resident of the Month in 2018.
