Earlene Moore,
Resident of the Month
Earlene was born May 11, 1942 to Earl and
Vada StanfIll in Carathersville, Mo. She has four
sisters and two brothers. She has always been a
people person and spending time with her friends
and family.
In 1975, after Earlene had graduated from
college, she moved to Mississippi. For more than
27 years, she taught 2nd grade.. According to
her, “That was the most rewarding thing I have
ever done.” At the beginning of every school
year, she would tell her students, “stick with me
and I’ll make you famous.” That year, one of her
students wrote a letter to the senator, asking for a
flag from his building. It wasn’t long after that
Earlene Moore
letter was sent, she received a call from the office
of Senator Gene Taylor. The secretary informed her that the flag was going to
be personally delivered by Senator Taylor . Earlene immediately sprung into
action. She had each student write one question to ask the senator on an index
card. If the student didn’t have a question written down, they were to remain
silent. “The first thing the senator did when he came into the room was ask
one of her students what they had for lunch.” Earlene state with a smile. “All
the kids turned around and looked at me. I laughed and proceeded to tell the
student that he could answer.” On that day, my class was famous. All of the
media outlets had shown up to document the moment when Senator Taylor
gave my class the flag.
She met her husband Bill, through her sister. Bill was the father-in-law of
her sister. They were married almost 28 years and raised sheltie puppies together. She still has Gracie, her last pup.
Earlene has been a part of the Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility
Family since December 2015. She enjoys everything that happens here on a
daily basis, and all the new friends she’s met, both residents and staff. Her
favorite food is all the cream pies. Congratulations, Earlene, on being chosen
the CMHCF’s February 2016 Resident of the Month. We are lucky to have
you here!
