Dale Scroggins
Resident of the Month
Dale was born Jan. 29, 1947, to Woodrow and Helen Scrog-
gins. Dale’s Father was a full time farmer and his Mother worked
at the Walnut Factory and a restaurant in Bolivar. Dale had one
sister, Beverly Rovenstine, who passed away several months ago.
He graduated from Pleasant Hope High School.
Dale worked for USDA Farm Service Agency for 20 plus
years where he covered Dallas, Hickory, Laclede, and Polk coun-
ties in Missouri checking out crops, crop ground, and measuring
bins, checking weight and moisture content. He enjoyed meeting
new people and being outdoors. He said he got acquainted with a
lot of farmers throughout the years and they are still friends today.
One funny memory that has is “After I had measured a grain bin, the CEO of the company
was checking it and pulled the wrong lever and 500 bushel of grain came out covering him
and the ground. I was thankful that had not happened when I checked it, but got a few
laughs over it happening to his boss,” said Dale.
Dale never had children of his own, but was fortunate to have eight nieces and nephews
and is very close to them. He enjoyed the time that he took Chuck and Ted to the State Fair
in Sedalia, Mo., in the mid 1980s and strolled around looking at all of the hogs and cattle.
Dale has always been a farmer and spent many years farming his 650 acres where he
had one hundred head of cattle, ten sows, corn, wheat, and hay. His uncle and neighbors
helped him put up the hay and tend to the crops.
One of his favorite hobbies is going to the stock car races. He has attended races in Se-
dalia, the Dallas County Speedway, and Lucas Oil Speedway where he would meet up with
his friends to watch the races. He also enjoys watching Nascar races on television. One of
the highlights of his life was when he met Bobby Allison, who was a Nascar driver, one
time when he was at Lucas Oil Speedway. He got a picture of him, and Bobby autographed
it for him. Dale said it meant so much to him. Another highlight was when he got to see
Ernie Durr, another Nascar driver, race in Sedalia, Springfield, and Bolivar. He said his
Hemi motor in his car vibrated the whole track.
“I want to share the reason that I’m at CMHCF, because it is a miracle that I am still
alive today. I had to have my leg amputated due to having diabetes in March of 2018. After
rehabilitation I moved to CMHCF. I was in really bad shape when I got here and they
placed me under Hospice care. I asked for a preacher to come in and talk to him and the
preacher helped me plan my funeral. I was on Hospice for several months and then our
wound nurse began to turn my prognosis around by knowing just what to do to get his am-
putation wound to heal. I soon came off of Hospice and am now working on getting a pros-
thetic leg. I am very thankful for the wound nurse for saving my life and helping my wound
heal,” said Dale.
Dale joined our family at CMHCF in April 2018. His two favorite things about
CMHCF are the wonderful care that he gets that saved his life and that he always gets his
clothes back quickly from laundry.
Congratulations Dale, on being chosen as CMHCF’s December Resident of the Month.
