Thomas Padgett,
Resident of the Month
Thomas was born Oct.16, 1929, to Thomas E.
and Alta Padgett in Mountain View, Mo. Thomas
was the youngest child with four children and only
boy! “Growing up with Opal, Willete, Ola and
Betty was fun,” he says with a smile. “There was
always something fun going on. In the summer, we
would go swimming in the nearby river.” Growing
up on a dairy farm, Thomas and his sisters would
have daily chores and responsibilities they would
have to do. According to Thomas, those chores
were never really seen as work.
Thomas Padgett
As a child, Thomas’ love for learning was always evident. After graduating from Mountain View High School, he would go on to attend SBU, Oklahoma Baptist and University of Texas. After receiving his Master’s degree,
Thomas continued his education at Southwestern Seminary and University of
Missouri, where he would earn his Doctorate degree. In 1960, Thomas returned
to Mountain View School Districtas a teacher. He would eventually return to
SBU, where he spent more than 30 years as a professor in the English Department.
Thomas has been fortunate enough to get to spend several weeks teaching in
Russia, China, Europe and New York.
While in college, he met Shirley at The Drive Inn, a restaurant in Bolivar.
After two years of dating, Thomas and Shirley were married and raised three
wonderful daughters: Julie, Becky, and Tammy. Through the years, the couple
have also been blessed with 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Thomas’ first car was a white, two-door Ford. His favorite food is his
wife’s German Chocolate cake, closely followed by Mexican and Chinese.
Thomas has been a part of the Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility family
since September 2015. In his free time, Thomas enjoys reading mystery novels,
watching movies, playing bingo, attending Bible study, and spending time
with his family.
Congratulations, Thomas, on being chosen as CMHCF’s Resident of
the Month for December. We are blessed to have you as a member of our
family.
