THE TOP 6 ACCESSORIES ON
MY HARLEY-DAVIDSON everyone rides a Harley-

NOT Davidson , and some of the top accessories I like may be standard on some models of Harley ’ s and other manufacturers . However , these are the primary items that help us enjoy the motorcycle .

First , are the right heated hand grips for the bike . I have tried generic heated grips and have been disappointed with them . When I get a new bike , I request the grips made by the motorcycle manufacturer . In addition , I recommend having the dealer install them . I installed one set on the Softail and found it an all-day job . I also would not recommend installing smooth , heated grips . The ribbed grips do a better job of evenly distributing the heat to my hands . Even in the South , the grips allow relaxation in your hands and arms on that rainy , cool day .
Second , are the manufacturer ' s tie-down mounts . These bolt directly into the upper front shock area and blend right in with the motorcycle . I know we say riding a bike is better than trailering a bike , but when you need to trailer it , these hooks are secure and stable . They are worth the investment to ensure your bike stays where you tie it .
Third , I always insist on heat shields for the rear cylinder head . Especially with the larger motors , the heat on your leg can get uncomfortable . These are an easy addition and won ’ t break the pocketbook . For those who like more chrome , they can be bought that way . I prefer the simple black ones .
Fourth , ensure you have a pushbutton gas cap cover . Many Harleys come with a keyed gas cover , but if you ' re handy at all , it is an easy conversion to go to the push button release . And a little-known fact about the keyed covers , all Harley keys usually work to open any bike , in case you forget yours .
Fifth , we ride double , so the following two items are for a happy wife ! Adjustable highway pegs are wonderful on those long trips for the passenger . I buy aftermarket and have found them to be excellent . They give the passenger a different foot position occasionally and relieve tired feet and legs . Most operators have highway pegs for themselves , but as I said , happy wife , happy life .
Sixth is once again for the passenger . Armrests . Operators have handlebars , but the passenger sometimes has no place to rest their arms . These are also aftermarket , and they include a cup holder . They have different height positions , and they swing out of the way to get on and off the bike .
Once again , I know many riders like the motorcycle just the way it came off the showroom floor . Some riders do not desire accessories . But for Laura and me , we like to enjoy the ride and not have it a torture test of fatigue . The best accessories for your motorcycle are the ones you want , can afford , and enjoy . CMA
