EVALUATING CHAPTER HEALTH

WHAT

does it really mean to be a β€˜ healthy
CMA chapter ?’ The obvious answer is that the chapter excels in the four foundational principles of prayer , fellowship , discipleship , and evangelism . But beyond that , what specific indicators would show the difference between a healthy chapter and one that is just going through the motions and getting by ?
Here are a few questions and discussion points to help identify growth areas or areas where additional focus might be beneficial .
Remember that CMA is a ministry , not a ride group or club .
β€’ Are chapter events covered in prayer and seeking the direction of the Holy Spirit ?
β€’ Do members serve at events with excitement and enthusiasm or out of obligation ?
β€’ Are ministry events viewed as a place to hand out tracts and evangelistic material or a place to connect with others and introduce them to Christ ?
A healthy chapter is visible in the community and active in outreach opportunities :
β€’ Are chapter members known by members of secular motorcycling organizations and attending their events ?
β€’ Are CMA chapter meeting details and contact information posted at the local motorcycle
shops ?
β€’ Do your members come alongside and support other CMA chapters in their events ?
β€’ Do chapter members participate in regular Run for the Son outreach opportunities to share the ministry ’ s mission and increase CMA ’ s visibility in the community ?
Member participation is another good indicator of chapter health . It is great to see chapter officers leading their members to participate in :
β€’ CMA chapter meetings
β€’ Chapter ministry opportunities
β€’ CMA State events
β€’ CMA National events ( Changing of the Colors Rally , National Rally , East / West National Rally )
β€’ Local , regional , and national Youth Movement events
β€’ Off-road events and non-cruiser ministry opportunities
Financial involvement is another indicator :
β€’ Does your chapter support CMA National and your CMA State on a regular basis ?
β€’ What percentage of your chapter members participate in the Seven Soldiers program ? CMA 365 ?
β€’ Do chapter members participate in Run for the Son at the $ 100 level ?
β€’ Has your chapter caught the vision that Run for the Son is about the ministry that can be accomplished and not just about
the amount of money being raised ?
Chapter meetings can be a good measure of chapter health :
β€’ Are chapter meetings exciting , fun , and the kind of place you would gladly invite a guest ?
β€’ Are meetings wrapped up in an hour or less ?
β€’ Have the same group of chapter officers held the same positions for years ?
β€’ Have you shown the new CMA Forming Chapter videos at your chapter meetings ?
β€’ Does your chapter regularly offer new member training opportunities to non-members ?
The CMA Handbook states , β€œ Chapters are the lifeblood of CMA . They are made up of CMA members uniting for a common purpose of spreading the light of Christ . Chapters realize that their true strength comes in working together . It is through the network of chapters that we are able to work events to build relationships that lead to opportunities to tell people about Christ . If you want to see God in action , being a part of a CMA chapter is a good place to be .” CMA Handbook Rev 2024 , page III : 1
Does that still describe your chapter and its members ? I ’ m praying that it does .
