GEAR REVIEW

By DOUG South
KLIM MARRAKESH PANTS start , I ’ m writing this

TO review on riding pants because as I hit my mid-50s , the waist in all of my riding pants shrunk in the wash . All of them at the same time , can you believe that ? As I was looking to replace my riding pants , I couldn ’ t buy one pair for off-road , one for street , and one designated for hot weather , all at the same time . With that in mind , I decided to try and find a pair of riding pants that I could use for all the hot travel in the rally season , as well as work for adventure rides that I hoped I would have time to do .

I went with a pair of Klim Marrakesh riding pants . These are not over pants , although you could wear them over light pants or shorts . However , I wear them like a pair of jeans . They have belt loops and pockets , just like regular pants . They have a lot of great features , like D30 Ghost armor in the waist and knees , which are very flexible and vented as well , so there are no sticky knees . They have two hand

pockets and two well-thought-out thigh pockets , where I keep my wallet and cell phone and a knife pocket , score ! It makes getting to your phone , wallet , and knife easy , unlike being under you .
The material is all 1000D Karbonite Micromesh Cordura fabric that is super flexible and breathable while still abrasion-resistant . They also have great inner knee panels that are DuPont Kevlar flame-resistant panels that help in gripping your bike if you are riding standing up on an adventure or enduro bike . The entire pant is breathable and has a 4-way stretch , making them the most comfortable riding pants I ’ ve worn .
Enough about the design . I have worn these pants for the entire riding season this year . I used them as my street riding pants , putting on over nine thousand miles in two months , and they worked great for that . They gave me confidence in the protection as well as breathing well . They are comfortable , down to 50 degrees without long underwear , but I have a fully dressed bike that cuts most of the wind off my legs . They were warm in hot conditions , but I had very little leg sweat , even up to 108 *, as long as I was moving . They breathe but are not open mesh , like
standard mesh pants . They seem to be cut generous in the waist and thighs , and I ordered talls , which usually are still too short for my 38 ” inseam ; however , these were the longest riding pants and fit perfectly for me . If it gets rainy or under 50 *, I could put on light rain over pants to give me the complete allweather pants and help keep my saddle bags light .
I eventually went to a couple of adventure rallies and took a threeday CMA men ’ s camping adventure trip through the Cascades . Once again , turning to my trusty Marrakesh , my only riding pants . I put them through the test of every kind of weather and condition imaginable . They worked awesomely . It is comfortable and protective , with great inner panels to keep your legs from burning . My only gripe with these is that there are no leg zippers you can open up to put on offroad knee guards if wanted , and they are a little bulky at the ankles to put inside of motocross or adventure-style tall boots with armor for the shins .
In conclusion , I highly recommend these pants . They are comfortable , protective , versatile , and haven ’ t shown any signs of wear after a long year of riding various styles of bikes . As always , I look forward to seeing you all out there , riding and sharing the love of Jesus with all He places in your path . Stay safe , ride fun , and keep loving ! CMA
