GEAR REVIEW

By ROBERT Dumond
FLY RESISTANCE JEANS enjoy a beautiful ride down scenic back roads with no surprises

I or incidents. Ever since my racing days( both bikes and cars), I have been a huge believer in ATGATT; All the Gear All the Time. I have witnessed the results otherwise.

One of the toughest decisions is pants. How to look casual at your destination but stay protected. Until recently, there weren’ t many options. Recent developments in riding jeans have solved this dilemma. Regular denim will last 0.6 seconds in a fall. 0.6 seconds. Even the least durable Aramid jeans will last 7 seconds on a slide. Enough to slow you down a lot before giving out. CE armor increases that even more.
I recently purchased Fly Racing Resistance Jeans. They come in Oxford( light blue) or Indigo( dark blue). The jeans come with CE armor in the knees. The armor pocket is adjustable for a good, comfortable fit over your knee.
Pockets for CE armor are provided in the hips but the armor must be purchased separately($ 30). For example, one of the pictures shows these jeans turned inside out, highlighting their construction.
The entire torso area is layered in DuPont Kevlar, as are the front of the legs. The armor pockets and front pockets are made from sharp-looking checkered flannel, as is the waistband. Nice touch. A YKK zipper is used in the fly. All stitches are double, and sturdy belt loops are attached. 12 oz denim is used throughout.
Riding a sport bike, I need to move around. These jeans allow easy movement on the bike. The fit is standard, and these jeans look fantastic. Fellow riders are surprised that they are armored. And yes, I wear the hip armor. None of it shows. They move with you easily. They are pre-softened. They are more comfortable than my regular jeans! After one ride, I ordered a second pair. When I get home, and
I’ m tired, I have forgotten to change out of them.
I have used riding jeans before. They usually feel stiff or bulky. Modern riding jeans have evolved over the years. There really is no reason to ride unprotected anymore. This review is of the Fly Racing jeans. If you try another brand, look for a good Aramid( Kevlar, Dyneema, etc) liner, CElevel knee and hip protection that is adjustable to fit different legs, and is a good fit. These Fly jeans check all the boxes.
Ride safe and blessed out there.
