GEAR REVIEW

By PETER Helgerson
DRY AS A DOG ’ S BONE am sure we would all agree that the best riding is that

I perfect day when the temperature is just right , and the skies are totally blue . However , I have had many days that start nice , but by the end of the day , the sky turns gray , and the clouds open up , and down comes the rain . It is times like this that you ask yourself why you are even on the bike as those cars pass by with their windshield wipers slapping . Well , we always carry rain gear for those unexpected weather changes .

I have purchased many types of rain gear in my 40 years of road riding . Most items have come from motorcycle gear magazines that advertise the rider and passenger will stay completely dry wearing their product . I ’ ve even spent up to $ 300.00 for motorcycle brand rain suits that made the buyer think it will keep you as dry as a dog ’ s bone left on the hot pavement . Well , as you all know , most of the time , you might as well just get wet because the suit does not live up to your expectations .
I want to recommend the rain gear that I have now been using for three years . I am very satisfied with it . It is motorcycle rain gear from “ Frogg Toggs .” This new generation motorcycle rain gear is a far cry from the early rain gear that burned on your exhaust pipes and only kept you dry when the sun was shining !
Let me point out some nice features of the jacket on the set I use :
• The collar has a nice built-in hood that easily fits under your helmet to keep your neck dry and water from running down your back .
• Under your chin , the jacket has a nice snap to keep the trickle from running down to your belly button .
• There are four large pockets , two up top and two lower , where I keep my wallet , phone , and keys .
• The sleeves are roomy enough to ride with them on , and they have hook and loop fastener cuffs that keep the rain out .
• The finishing touch is a drawstring to keep it all tight around your waist .
Now let ’ s talk about the pants :
• The pants have zippers up to your knees so you don ’ t have to remove your riding boots to get them on .
• The pants also zip down from the waist about 12 inches .
• They have reflective sides .
• They have “ under the boot ” straps to keep them in the right position as you ride .
• They also have belt loops so you can keep them up and fitting snug around your waist .
And then there is the price . A good jacket and pant set will run you much less than some brands of motorcycle rain gear , but they still run about $ 150.00 , depending on where you purchase them . At any cost , this rain gear has proven itself on many rainy days on the road . I think you will still dislike riding in the rain , but you will at least be drier upon arrival .
