50TH ANNIVERSARY

August HeartBeat

I have been riding motorcycles since my teenage years. Terri and I became Christians one year after our marriage in 1976, but we had never heard of CMA until the summer of 2003. I started a riding group in 2001, and by the summer of 2003, it had grown to over 20 members. This continued for several years until one of the guys, Nathan, informed me that he could no longer attend the riding group because he was going to start a CMA chapter in the Aurora, Illinois area. I asked him,“ What is that?” I had never heard of CMA before.

Well, that was the start of our CMA adventure. After attending one of the monthly forming chapter meetings later that fall, I was hooked. I came home and told Terri she needed to check it out. She was a little apprehensive, thinking it was“ just for the guys.” The following month, she also attended and said to me,“ This is the mission field we had been praying for!” Many years before this, we had been seeking the traditional missionary-type ministry going to Africa, but God shut those doors.
That forming chapter we joined became chartered during our 2005 Seasons of Refreshing and became Chariots for Christ # 836. Our chapter grew rapidly and became one of the largest in
Illinois within a few years. We were a very active chapter, attending many bike events in the Chicago land area and throughout Illinois. Terri served as Secretary, and I served as Vice President and President before we became Area Representatives in 2010. In 2012, I became State Coordinator and held that position until 2022, when God called us out of that role. In 2024, I was asked to join the CMA Board of Directors.
CMA, for the past 21 years, has been a significant part of our lives, offering numerous great opportunities to meet and minister to people from all over the nation and other countries as well. We continue to serve and volunteer at the CMA Support Center in Hatfield, Arkansas. CMA
