Club Skills Guide 2015 | Page 5

CLUBSKILLSGUIDE his Club Skills Guide is designed for clubs and national league teams whose primary focus is not only to play the game, but to also teach the game and its fundamental skills. The guide has been designed as the minimum standard of teaching and coaching basketball at club level in the UK. T Areas of Emphasis: Guidelines for Coaches* remains the first step in refocusing and coordinating basketball coaching in the UK. This Club Skills Guide provides a link between the areas of emphasis (AoE) and coaching at club level. Together they form only a part of the greater solution for more effective basketball teaching and coaching, with the aim being to springboard British basketball to higher standards of player development and performance when combined with extensive player development programmes focused on teaching the basic skills and techniques. Each and every coach should reflect on their coaching and set about improving their own teaching and coaching at all levels. If our players’ learning improves, we will have done our job. All coaches will need to develop good evaluation and analysis skills to ensure improvement. With a more concise focus derived from these guidelines we will be directed on a path and process to coach better-skilled British basketball players. * Areas of Emphasis: Guidelines for Coaches is a curriculum document aimed at leaders of the coaching community. There are two sections to the document and each of the eight AoE has a number of recommendations appropriate to each level of organisation (ie national). There are concepts and basic principles that underpin the AoE, and five themes for implementation. The AoE recommendations for clubs form the basis of the Club Skills Guide. They are provided to guide coaches with specific considerations for action.
