CLUBSKILLSGUIDE THE CLUB SKILLS GUIDE The Club Skills Guide provides a link between the AoE, coaching at club level and an overview of club coaching. The following four modules are written to assist clubs and coaches in the planning, organisation, delivery and development of young basketball players. • Club Coaching Guidance – Describes the role of the coach and club in each player’s development through teaching and understanding. • Age Group Organisation – Identifies the stages of player development and how they fit within international basketball. • Planning for Training – Details the priority for training and the relevance of competition, as well as keys to improving practice. • Game Style and Principles of Play – Clarifies the phases, principles and priorities of individual and team tactics. 7 Ultimately, the club coach will have to decide on training content, as well as the structure for each practice. It should be understood that coaching is not simply your knowledge or its application; it is your ability to transfer this knowledge into player performance. The Club Skills Guide presents information and guidance on what to do and how to do it. There are many other supporting documents and resources available to assist coaches. Visit Basketball England and basketballscotland for further information, and see the ‘Additional Documents’ section in this guide.
