GTB’s Contextual Banking Experience
Platform (CBX) is the world’s first in-
tegrated transaction banking platform.
White-labelled to banks, it helps their corpo-
rate customers manage their requirements,
leveraging machine learning and predictive
analytics to offer a number of “next best”
options reflecting customer intent.
“The advantage of CBX is the breadth of
its coverage, encompassing the full range of
transaction banking requirements for differ-
ent industry segments,, such as airlines, edu-
cation and insurance companies or different
corporate structures, from listed multina-
tionals to SMEs,” says Michel Jacobs, Head
of Digital & Payments Products, iGTB. In
addition, he notes, iGTB draws on expertise
from within the banking industry to shape its
offerings. Each of our business-line leaders
has run the business on the bank side.”.
The CBX platform covers the full breadth
of corporate requirements, automatically
highlighting issues and presenting a palette of
possible decisions in response to each specific
transactional context. “What matters to a busi-
ness is all its balance sheet and P&L, but banks
have traditionally tended to focus on what
they offer – in silos – and not on what their cli-
ents are trying to do,” says Jacobs (See Table
1). Clients making a payment, for example, are
typically presented first with having to choose
‘how’ to pay – esoteric choices such as wire
payments, ACH or RTGS – rather than ‘what’
to pay, let alone ‘why’. “It’s like an airline ask-
ing its passengers what fuel they want used for
their flight,” says Jacobs.
iGTB’s mission, he explains, is to bring con-
textual banking to banks’ clients. “Contextual
Banking’s digital offering understands and
anticipates what the business is trying to
achieve in much the same way as Amazon
and Siri,” he says.
When it comes to engaging with the CBX
platform, each bank will address its biggest
pain point first, says Jacobs, but, based on
experience, will then expand its engagement.
“Although banks may select their entry point
on the basis of where they feel the greatest
pain, their use of CBX inevitably expands to
other areas,” he says. “Smaller institutions
may on the other hand want to leverage a full
spectrum of capabilities ‘out of the box’ to
optimise the benefits of integration.”
Caveat emptor
Jacobs recognises that the siloed nature of
financial IT providers means that vendors
