Fulton ’ s authentic Dutch Windmill , “ De Immigrant ,” was prefabricated in the Netherlands and erected by Dutch craftsmen . The windmill sits on the fl ood control dike and houses Fulton ’ s Welcome Center and gift shop . This is open from June through September daily and weekends in May and October .

Heritage Canyon , on the banks of the Mississippi River , displays restored buildings from the 1800s . The buildings sit in an old limestone quarry that was purchased in 1967 by Harold and Thelma Wierenga and converted to preserve the integrity of the natural surroundings . This facility is open year round . The river is closed to navigation annually from mid-December to the fi rst part of March . This lock & dam , managed by the U . S . Army Corps of Engineers , allows for viewing bald eagles during the winter months , from November to March . Public lock & dam tours are held Sundays at 1 p . m . between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends . Special group tours may be arranged by calling the park rangers .

This picturesque state park featuring beautiful Lake Carlton , a stream-fed reservoir , offers a variety of recreational opportunities including picnicking , camping , fi shing , boating , and hiking , as well as equestrian trails , archery , and an abundance of wildlife . Winter sports such as ice fi shing , ice skating , and cross-country skiing are also popular at the park . Located north of Morrison in Whiteside County , the park comprises 1,150 acres .
