Put me in , coach !
different sports as a kid , followed by collegiate basketball at Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky and his professional basketball career in Australia , where he played for the Townsville Crocodiles . Thoroughly understanding the benefits and importance of sports for youths , he personally believes it ’ s great for kids to be involved .
“ It teaches them so many different things ,” he says , citing adversity , time-management , and the development of their relationships as well as their foundations in life . “ It helps them grow as individuals .”
Evans says the influx of participation in recreational programs is fantastic , because the department serves more than only the community of Clinton .
“ It ’ s a very large demographic and population that we serve ,” he says , “ for our community and the surrounding communities as well .”
Those include Fulton and Mount Carroll , Illinois ; Camanche and DeWitt ; and soccer teams that come to play from Maquoketa . The greatest need of the department , in regard to any of the sports it offers , is volunteer coaches for the youths .
“ It ’ s a good , quality program ,” Evans adds , “ and it runs well when we have parents who are invested and want to volunteer and help grow those programs with them .”
Soon to be going into his fifth year with Clinton ’ s Parks and Recreation Department , Evans has witnessed its continuous evolution . “ We are always growing ,” he says . “ We ’ ll always continue to be open to ideas as a department and growth .” C
