different sports as a kid , followed by collegiate basketball at Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky and his professional basketball career in Australia , where he played for the Townsville Crocodiles . Thoroughly understanding the benefits and importance of sports for youths , he personally believes it ’ s great for kids to be involved .
“ It teaches them so many different things ,” he says , citing adversity , time-management , and the development of their relationships as well as their foundations in life . “ It helps them grow as individuals .”
Evans says the influx of participation in recreational programs is fantastic , because the department serves more than only the community of Clinton .
“ It ’ s a very large demographic and population that we serve ,” he says , “ for our community and the surrounding communities as well .”
Those include Fulton and Mount Carroll , Illinois ; Camanche and DeWitt ; and soccer teams that come to play from Maquoketa . The greatest need of the department , in regard to any of the sports it offers , is volunteer coaches for the youths .
“ It ’ s a good , quality program ,” Evans adds , “ and it runs well when we have parents who are invested and want to volunteer and help grow those programs with them .”
Soon to be going into his fifth year with Clinton ’ s Parks and Recreation Department , Evans has witnessed its continuous evolution . “ We are always growing ,” he says . “ We ’ ll always continue to be open to ideas as a department and growth .” C

Can ’ t get enough soccer ? Come play in our summer soccer league . High school participants must have completed their freshman year . 5 v 5 games will be played with NO goalie on a mid-sized field using smaller youth goals . Participants must sign-up as a team ( min 5 player & 7 player maximum roster ). LOCATION : Jurgensen Soccer Complex DAY / TIME : Mon . and Wed . evenings beginning June 15 LIMIT : Minimum 4 team requirement – Maximum 10 team per league ENTRY DEADLINE : Wed . FLAG FOOTBALL
Instruction in non-tackle flag football for 1st , 2nd , 3rd & 4th grades . Volunteer coaches will show youngsters an assortment of warm-ups , drills and plays needed to acquire basic football skills . T-shirts will be given to all players and coaches . Teams will consist of 7 players on the field at one time with minimum playing rules . Children registered by school attended .
WHO : Grades 1st / 2nd – 3rd / 4th Boys and Girls LOCATION : Emma Young Park – softball fields DATE : September 25 – October 30 SCHEDULE : Week 1 & 2 : 2-3 practices / week , Week 3-6 : 1 practice , 2 games DAYS : Sunday afternoons , some week nights & other days for practice as scheduled Practices : 1-1 / 2 hour dependent upon coaches availability . FALL YOUTH SOCCER
Come take part in one of the area ’ s largest youth soccer programs . This program is designed to teach the fundamentals of soccer to participants ages 3 through 8th grade . Children will learn the fundamentals of soccer through practices and games through instruction by volunteer coaches . Games consist of smaller sided play to ensure more quality touches of the ball during games . Roster sizes will vary depending on number of registrations for each league .
There are 8 leagues available including Preschool ( co-ed ), K-1st grade ( co-ed ), 2-3rd Grade Boys , 2-3rd Grade Girls , 4-5th Grade Boys , 4-5th Grade Girls , 6-7-8th Grade Boys and 6-7- 8th Grade Girls .
