Invasive plant species are often characterized by their vigor , ability to adapt , reproductive capacity , and general lack of natural enemies . These abilities enable them to displace native plants and make them a threat to natural areas . One of the 174 tree species in Mount Auburn Cemetery Sample Plots are identified as invasive on the state invasive species list ( Massachusetts Invasive Plant Advisory Group 2005 ). This invasive species ( Norway maple ) comprises 1.7 percent of the tree population though it may only cause a minimal level of impact ( see Appendix V for a complete list of invasive species ).
