T
he merging of two trends is like a fashion love
child, and this fall’s bundle of joy is a result of
two trends: varsity and preppy. From varsity
jackets over pastel tops to pleated skirts paired
with striped detailed sweaters, this combination
of trends is as easy as 1-2-3 (a match that should
have been made long ago)! Together, a Clueless meets Grease’s
Rydell High School type of style is created. Who doesn’t love the
sound of that? As if!
The emergence of this trend combo isn’t new. Taylor
Swift and Leighton Meester’s Gossip Girl character Blair Waldorf
have been sporting these trends together effortlessly. In fact, we’ve
gained some fashion inspiration from them on how to merge varsity and preppy apparel.
Start off with a staple of the varsity style: a letterman
jacket. Pair it with a basic piece of the preppy style: a feminine
blouse or pastel sweater. Then choose your bottoms from either
trend: joggers for more of a varsity touch or colored pants for more
of a preppy style.
Sounds simple enough, right? Look for the basics, and it
becomes easy to pair trends together. Opt for a striped sweater over
a dainty dress. Instead of sneakers, wear penny loafers with the
joggers, and instead of flats, wear kicks with the color pants. It’s all
about mixing this with a little bit of that! BY VICTORIA OLMO
