Cliché : You ' re a recording artist , actor , and a popular digital content creator ! Which outlet do you enjoy the most and why ? Cody Johns : I go through artist phases on what I like more in the moment . At this current era of life , I ' m loving music so much . But I always find myself returning to sets or making videos !
What initially sparked your passion for music ? My dad would always play guitar for me and my siblings and sing to us before bed - and that ' s what inspired me in the beginning . My grandfather was also a multi talented singer / songwriter so he ' s was a huge musical inspiration for me .
How would you describe your musical style ? What inspires your music ? Right now I feel like it ' s a melting pot of sounds . My first ever song was sort of ' Indie Pop ', then my next few songs shifted from R & B to my most recent release being something like ' Funk- Pop ' fusion . My sound is whatever I create in the moment !
Talk about your new single , " Holiday ." Holiday is the first song I fully wrote and produced myself . I really like how straightforward it is . Not too much ' fancy ' production . I wanted to create something that made you snap your fingers to . There are also live horns in there which you don ' t hear too much in pop these days .
What ' s your preferred genre of music ? Are you planning on exploring or combining different genres in future tracks ? I ' m always exploring new sounds and styles but I really love pop . I never want to limit myself because I am still finding my sound .
You have quite the social media following ! Do you enjoy interacting and sharing your life with your fans ? Have there been any comments or tweets to you that you ' ve particularly enjoyed or made you laugh ? YES ! My true fans know me well and I try to update them on what I ' m doing as much as possible ! They always make
me laugh , especially when they tweet me GIFS of really excited-themed memes when I ' m about to release my next song .
What kind of response have you gotten from fans about your music ? The response has been incredible . A majority of the fans really love the stuff that I ' ve put out . Even though every once in a while a fan may express that a certain song wasn ' t their favorite - they will still express that they support me no matter what .
What motivates you to keep making music ? The will to get better motivates me . I feel that every song I put out , I progress a little more as an artist . So maybe after a few albums of songs I won ' t be half bad [ laughs ].
How are you hoping your music ( or your perspective as an artist ) will evolve over the coming months / years ? I like the idea of surprising people with every release . That way no one can ' expect ' a certain sound . I ' m sure I will settle into a groove eventually with my style but right now I ' m enjoying playing with different ideas ! www . clichemag . com 35
