Multiple exhibits , archived photographs , ephemera and artifacts tell the county ’ s story at Johnson County Historical Museum located on the first floor of the Johnson County Courthouse at 2 N . Main St .

The museum opened in 2010 and is operated by the Johnson County Historical Commission .
Carefully collected and preserved are a number of permanent , rotating exhibits and an ever-expanding collection of published research material for public use .
Each incorporated town in Johnson County is represented with a display case which houses items of interest from Alvarado , Burleson , Cleburne , Godley , Grandview , Joshua , Keene , Rio Vista and Venus .
The museum is open 9 a . m . to 4 p . m . Monday through Thursday and 9 a . m . to 3 p . m . Friday .

A small museum display area in the basement of the Guinn Justice Center at 204 S . Buffalo St . offers a nostalgic look back at the history of Cleburne High School . The Guinn , which now houses courts and other county offices , formerly housed CHS .
The Johnson County Historical Commission also owns and maintains the Dotey-Kirkham House — known as “ the Little Old House ” — at 409 N . Buffalo St .
This white clapboard cottage was acquired for restoration and preservation from the family of T . P . Kirkham by the city of Cleburne in 1965 . Likely constructed in 1870 , it is believed to be among the oldest , if not the oldest , surviving dwelling in Cleburne .

Gone With the Wind Remembered Museum & Gift Shop

A touch of Atlanta , Civil War history and the classic 1939 film have propelled Cleburne ’ s Gone With the Wind Remembered Museum & Gift Shop a go to destination for “ Gone With The Wind ” fans .
Cleburne resident Vicky Rogers opened the museum with an eye toward celebrating her favorite movie and Southern heritage . At 305 E . Second St ., the museum showcases more than 6,000 exhibits related to both the iconic Margaret Mitchell novel and subsequent film . Civil War and Cleburne related memorabilia round out the museum ’ s exhibits .
A passionate GWTW fan , Rogers began collecting items
Cleburne This is Texas 55 related to the book and film more than 30 years ago . The museum building , which once housed Given ’ s Grocery Store , has been lovingly renovated to allow Rogers to share her love of GWTW and history with Cleburne and the world .
Rogers has hosted special events in past years including a two day convention , which attracted hundreds of “ Windies ,” as “ Gone With the Wind ” aficionados are affectionately known . Mickey Kuhn , who appeared in the film , attended as did other guest speakers .
Normal business hours are 10 a . m . to 5 p . m . Thursdays through Saturdays . Admission is $ 10 for adults and $ 7 for seniors 65 years and older and for a group rate . Children are $ 5 ; children in strollers can get in free .
