New home construction , already robust , exceeded expectations in 2020 .
“ Through [ November 2020 ] we surpassed the 300 mark in new residential building permits ,” Easdon said . “ Last year was the first year we went over 200 . So it ’ s just been totally unexpected and obviously very welcomed . It doesn ’ t really show any signs of slowing down .”
The better news , Easdon said , is that building has spread throughout town including the long neglected east side of Cleburne . In addition to new homes many older homes have been renovated and resold in recent years . A city council approved program addressing so-called infill lots — the program rebates a portion of impact fees back to builders thus making previously economically unfeasible properties viable — has led to a spurt of new construction on previously vacant properties throughout Cleburne .
Downtown has seen revival in recent years as well , the product of new business investment , sidewalk replacements as well as
