On Monday, August 21, 2017, the United States experienced a Total Solar Eclipse, the first one to cross the entire country in 99 years! The Eclipse, will reach its point of greatest duration in Carbondale, IL. The city of Carbondale won’t have to wait too long for another chance to see another total solar eclipse. There is a second eclipse on April 8, 2024, that will go right over Carbondale again.
In fact, the two eclipse paths form an intersection just south of the SIU-Carbondale campus around Cedar Lake, making it a unique location for being able to observe and study both eclipses from the same location.
The Solar Eclipse passed through five cities that Clearworld’s provides their services to. Carbondale, IL, Franklin, TN, Charleston County, SC, Calhoun Falls, SC, and Anderson County, SC. Using our wireless controls in a blackout, though it was only two minutes, our cities received light in real time because of our battery storage. According to the New York Times, at the Eclipse's peak, the eclipse is expected to knock out over thousands megawatts’ worth of solar panels, but because of technology offered by Clearworld’s we have the ability to provide 80 hours or more of backup power to city infrastructure during power outages which greatly enhances city resiliency.
