BIGGER, BETTER, BUSIER…
As the eighth Grand Designs Live
Birmingham closed its doors at the NEC
once again Media 10, the prestigious events
organisers, celebrated its most successful
show to date, with more than 64,356 (subject
to ABC audit) visitors, a 28% increase from
50,049 (ABC audited) in 2012, and 500
exhibitors, affirming its position as the UK’s
top contemporary home show.
As excited visitors gathered to enter the 2013
event, show host Kevin McCloud was on hand
to greet their arrival, before cutting the ribbon
and declaring the 2013 show officially open.
The show’s footprint expanded by 15%, taking
over two halls.
Exhibitors were also delighted with the
show’s success. Caroline Mills, Product
Manager for Anglian Home Improvements
commented: “This was the first time that
we have exhibited at Grand Designs Live
Birmingham and we had a phenomenal
response to our products. The footfall was
exceptional – our Timber Orangery in
Grand Build was filled with visitors from the
moment the show opened. The show attracts
visitors who are actively in the market for
improving their homes, which is a great fit
for our products and services. Overall Grand
Designs Live 2013 has been a great success
for us.”
Grand Designs Live will return to London at
the ExCeL Docklands from the 3rd – 11th
May 2014.
Putting Awards on the map
Purplex Marketing, the window industry
specialist marketing agency, was appointed
to help launch the inaugural Business
Leaders Awards, with an ambitious brief
to create the South West’s most influential
business event.
Sam Cross, Account Manager for Purplex,
said; “Initially this was a daunting task; to
launch any inaugural event is a challenge but
our brief was to create the highest profile and
most prestigious business awards ever held in
the South West.”
The event was held at DoubleTree by Hilton,
Cadbury House Hotel, on Thursday 26th
September 2013, and the evening proved a
resounding success.
Tickets sold out two months ahead with over
600 requests for an event that was originally
planned for 300. But it was the calibre of
guests that made the night truly special; this
included leaders in business, government and
education including Dr Liam Fox MP, Dr
Paul Philips OBE, and a host of celebrities
including Under the Hammer presenter
Martin Roberts and a number of high profile
published authors.
Representatives from some of the South
West’s largest companies attended, including
GE Oil and Smurfit Kappa, along with
representatives from the banking and financial
sectorand legal sector.

GETTING FIT AGAIN!
Universal Arches has committed
to the FIT Show again for
2014 with some gusto and
will be looking to build on its
impressive presence at the 2013
exhibition, as the company
celebrates its 20th consecutive
year in business.
At the FIT Show 2013,
Universal Arches was the
only bending specialist at the
show, displaying newly formed
Residence 9 frames and an
arched Solidor composite door.
The company has exclusive
arrangements with both of these
key industry partners, as one
would expect from the bending
sector market leader.
With over 2,000 visitors to the
stand in 2013, Universal Arches
had what was, according to
the organisers, the most visited
stand at the show, based on data
captured. This was helped in no
small part to the competition
to enter the arched composite
door, with the keys being handed
out with the lanyards at the
registration to the show.

Leon Day, managing director of
Universal Arches, comments: ‘It’s
important for us, as the market
leader in the bending sector, to
be seen alongside our peers in
the other sectors of the glazing
industry.”
