DWS make safer windows with
Build Check laboratory
Build Check laboratory testing has
helped trade fabricator DWS of Swindon
confidently to achieve compliance for CE
Marking safety devices.
“All window safety devices have to be tested
to comply with CE marking requirements,”
explains Richard Bate, Build Check’s Technical
Director.
“Testing has to be undertaken on the
complete window set, including the hinges.
The level of failures for safety devices has been
much higher than we would have expected.
Many companies believe, however, that testing
is just a formality and use cascaded data from
the manufacturer. DWS avoided any risk by
investing in its own product testing.”
“Build Check really helped us through the
process,” says Chris Jones, Operations Manager
at DWS. “When the first window was tested,
the restrictor stay hinge failed. Build Check
immediately let us see where the problems
occurred so we decided to substitute the
restrictor hinge for a different design which
Build Check tested this for us at a reduced cost.
It passed first time so we are now confident that
our window products are compliant.”

VEKA UK Group is ‘Secured by

‘Already achieved
enhanced security
standards to PAS 24’
The VEKA UK Group is
proud to have been awarded
the ‘Secured by Design’
accreditation right across its
VEKA and Halo product ranges,
in addition to already holding
the accreditation on its Bowater
Doors range.
Head of Technical Mark Barsby
explains: “We are proud to have
demonstrated all our systems to
meet the requirements of the strict
Secured by Design criteria and,
as such, we now have full SBD
membership.
“Our highly-secure systems had
already achieved enhanced security
standards to PAS 24 but now,
with the additional SBD logo,
our clients can see at a glance
that this accreditation is stitched
throughout the supply chain.
“VEKA and Halo supply a
large number of SBD-approved
fabricators and the use of the SBD
‘Police Preferred Specification’
logo quickly identifies to specifiers
and public the level of secure
design running from extruded
