“A company to
inspire Britain”
Door-Stop has been recognised as ‘a
company to inspire Britain’ in a report
produced by The London Stock Exchange
Group. The report, “1,000 Companies
to Inspire Britain”, compiled by Growth
Management, lists small and medium
sized UK companies that have performed
strongly in the challenging period since
2009, and consistently outperformed
companies in their sector.
The selected companies come from more
than 100 sectors, including disciplines
as diverse as automotive, architecture
and wine. Encouragingly, manufacturers
account for about a fifth of the list and
they come from all areas of the UK. In
the introduction to the report these “most
exciting” companies are described as “the
lifeblood of the UK economy”. The London
Stock Exchange Group goes on to say that
the success of these SMEs is a “shockingly
under-reported story” that it is determined
to change.
Nick Dutton, Managing Director of
Door-Stop, comments: “It’s gratifying to be
recognised by an organisation as prestigious as
the London Stock Exchange Group. DoorStop has grown rapidly year on year since
we started. In just five years we’ve helped
transform the composite door market and
achieved a turnover of £24 million.”

MAKING THE MILLION
The glazing sector’s adopted charity, GM
Fundraising, surpassed its second major milestone
of 2013 at its recent Christmas Gala Dinner.
Despite a mid-event fire alarm evacuation,
more than three hundred of the great and
good of the industry celebrated till the
early hours, at the same time raising an
incredible £33,974 for GM Fundraising on
the night.

This amount took GMF past the £1,000,000
of funds raised solely for Hope House
Children’s Hospices; having already reached
its ambitious target of a million in total funds
raised with the Hope 66 cycle ride across
America. Total funds raised now stands at a
mammoth £1,095,922.40.
This event marked the end of a frantic year
for the GM Fundraising team, having hosted
the dinner, a golf day and of course the muchpublicised Hope 66 ride, which itself raised an
incredible £180,606.35.
GM Fundraising Chairman, Gary Morton
commented: ‘Naturally the team are all
delighted, first to have passed our million
pound objective in September and then in turn
to pass that same milestone in donations to
Hope House alone. This has been a remarkably
busy period for the team and to have achieved
these two landmarks makes it all worthwhile.”

BEFORE
YOU DIG
National Grid has
launched a new website,
www.beforeyoudig.
nationalgrid.com, to help
prevent contractors
and developers from
hitting or striking
through gas distribution
and transmission pipes
and electricity cables.
The new site is free to register and
open to all contractors, consultants
and developers, providing registered
users with a fast and accurate
interactive mapping service within
minutes so that they can accurately
mark up a work area to avoid all of
National Grid’s under and overground assets.
Currently National Grid makes a
substantial number of claims a year
against construction and property
companies for the repair of its assets
that have been accidently damaged,
resulting in significant costs to the
property industry.
Once registered, users simply have to
complete a short, pre-defined form that
details what work is being undertaken
and use an interactive map to specify
the exact location the work is taking
place. The site then automatically
provides downloads of detailed maps
and drawings for all of the National
Grid assets in the vicinity of the site,
with scaled asset location maps.
Most importantly, it provides advice
on how to proceed efficiently and safely
and tailored guidance appropriate
to the specific activities being
undertaken.
