AUTHORITATIVE TECHNICAL BROCHURE
Boasting an extensive range of
70mm PVC-U profiles, Synseal’s
market-leading Legend is a
highly flexible system that can
be used for both residential and
commercial applications and
now all available specification
options are summarised in a
new authoritative technical
brochure.
This 28-page publication
presents Legend’s choice of
Chamfered and Ovolo profile
suites in one handy document,
with detailed information on
frame and insulated glass unit
configurations to achieve different
WER ratings and U-values which can be as low as 1.6 W/
m2K using 28mm double glass
and 0.7 W/m2K using 40mm
triple glass.
Kitemark and Agrement
quality assurance certifications
for the Legend system are
documented, together with
recycled environmental options,
foiled colour finishes and section
drawings illustrating profile
configurations for casements, tilt
and turn windows, residential
doors, bi-fold and inline patio
doors.
The new Legend brochure is
designed to fit into the Synseal
specification binder. The ringbound technical folder contains
comprehensive information on
Synseal’s current product ranges
- which is provided by individual
brochures - so the folder’s
contents can be tailored to meet
specific customer requirements.
Mark Schlotel, Synseal’s Head
of Marketing, concluded: “We are
steadily building a commanding
array of authoritative technical
brochures covering the entire
range of Synseal products.”
IMPROVED PATIO DOORS WILL BOOST
INSTALLATION AND PERFORMANCE
Synseal’s popular patio doors
have benefited from a series of
profile design improvements in
preparation for the 2014 home
refurbishment season.
In response to customer
feedback, a new fitter-friendly
J-bead has been introduced to
make site glazing of Synseal patio
doors both easier and quicker.
The PVC-U patio sliding sash
profile has been redesigned with
an internal web added to create
‘Welcomed by all’
a triple-chambered design for
greater thermal efficiency. This
also improves the U-value for a
standard patio glazed with 28mm
double glass including aluminium
spacer bar from 1.6 W/m2K
down to 1.5 W/m2K. The central
chamber houses a 2mm steel
reinforcement to give increased
rigidity and an external drainage
slope has been added to efficiently
route rainwater to the concealed
drainage slots and optimise
weather performance.
While patio doors with external
sliding sashes will always remain
the most popular specification,
an internal slider option has now
been added to cater for occasional
market demand.
Mark Schlotel, Synseal’s Head of
Marketing, commented: “These
improvements will be introduced
from February 3rd 2014 and are
certain to be welcomed by all
our many patio door customers,
from bar length fabricators to
purchasers of door kits and Evolve
range patio door units.”
Facing Up to the Environment
Powdertech (Corby) Ltd is applying its
extensive knowledge in powder coating to
a demanding marine coastal environment.
Such an environment creates some of the
most challenging conditions for corrosion
resistance.
Powdertech was commissioned to coat steel
balconies for a development of new houses on
a coastal road in Seaford, Sussex. The balconies
directly face the sea and are less than 100
metres from the shore. They are constantly
surrounded by moist air with high salinity and
rain water heavily laden with chloride from
the sea. Sea wind picks up particles of sand
and is therefore highly abrasive.

In addition, a roadway runs between the
buildings and the shore, adding further
pollutants to the atmosphere, which are an
additional corrosive threat.
“Powdertech was involved at a very early
stage, advising that the steel should be
galvanized and that the design must eliminate
sharp edges, which can cause localised
thinning and fracturing of the coating,” said
Powdertech Sales Director, Richard Besant.
“Our rigorous 9-stage pre-treatment process
for galvanized steel ensures that all parts
of the metal are treated by immersing the
components, correctly vented for such a
process.”
