I read with interest the article
about trickle vents.
On the serious side, they are
actually creating a potential
serious long term effect on
health.
Most new buildings are now
tested for air leakage. Any leaks
are dealt with making them very
well sealed.
For healthy living continuous
air change is essential. This
is why Passivhaus demand
active ventilation as a key
requirement. “good indoor air
quality, provided by a whole
house mechanical ventilation
system with highly efficient heat
recovery”
Someone in the Ministry of
Silly Decisions really has looked
at trickle vents and thinks the
users would actually leave them
open and they would therefore
work? Unbelievable!
I sit on the British
Woodworking Technical
Committee. The last time we
were asked to comment on Part
F of the Building Regulation I
suggested trickle vents should
be dropped as solution - and
nothing happened.

Andrew - let’s banish ‘em!
I have just read Andrew
Halsall’s amusing article in
the July issue of Clearview
magazine about trickle vents,
and would like to add our
wholehearted support!
No-one wants or likes them
(apart, presumably from the
manufacturers) and they are an
unsightly nuisance, so let’s try to
get them banished for good.
