PROUD SPONSOR OF INSTALLER SUPPORT
INSTALLERSUPPORT
How joining a competent person
scheme could change your business
As a result of the actions of a small minority, the
construction industry doesn’t always have the best
reputation. Unfortunately, the actions of a few can reflect
badly on all installers and can unfairly influence the
public’s perception. It’s therefore important for everyone
within the industry to play their part in transforming
the wrongful image of those working in our sector.
» » WHILST YOU YOURSELF KNOW
that your work is top notch and you work
hard to keep your existing customers happy,
when it comes to gaining new business, you
might find you need something to help you
stand out from the crowd and reassure your
customers that your work is of top quality.
One way to reassure potential customers
that you’re reliable and a cut above the rest
is by joining a competent person scheme;
from plumbing through to roofing, there are
scheme which exist to support all skill-sets
and highlight a tradesperson’s proficiency
in a particular discipline, helping you to
demonstrate that you have been deemed
competent to carry out work to a high
quality.
How do competent person schemes
help you to stand out from the crowd?
The reputation of installers alongside
ongoing every-day financial constraints
has resulted in the public becoming very
cautious about who they part money with
when it comes to having work done on their
property. As a result, it’s important to have
something extra that sets you apart from other
installers. Knowing that an independent body
or manufacturer has approved the quality of
your work will offer reassurance to potential
customers and if it comes down to it, it’s likely
they’ll choose an installer with a certification
that proves you can do a good job.
What about lead generation?
On top of the business that you will gain
as a result of the extra certification, being
part of a scheme often means you qualify for
lead generation opportunities, something we
offer through Eurocell Select. This means that
we pass any jobs that come through to us as
a business to our registered installers, which
could provide a great additional source of
income for your business.
Can you benefit from any extra training?
Another benefit of being part of a scheme is
access to free training. No matter how much
experience you have, it’s important to continue
to improve throughout your career in order to
continue to be as good at your job as possible
and deliver the best service to your customers.
Training is a great way to learn about new
products and helps you to position yourself
as an expert that your customers can turn to
when they need advice. Eurocell Select installers
have access to training held at various locations
across the UK which includes both practical
installation training as well as industry quality
standards and classroom sessions.
Will there be any support to promote
yourself and your business?
Once you’re certified it’s important to get
the message out there that you’re a competent
installer. Make sure you include your
competent person scheme logo on all of your
marketing collateral including your van, flyers
and website so potential customers are aware
of your additional accreditations. As part of
the Eurocell Select scheme, we also provide
additional marketing support to further assist
you, for example brochure design and website
building.
Are there any other added benefits?
Unfortunately, occasionally customers
can be difficult no matter how good you are
at your job, so from time to time you may
find yourself in disputes, whether it’s an
unwarranted claim from a customer, or refusal
of payment. Many competent person schemes
offer Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
support, which could save you significant
amounts of money in a small claims court.
Eurocell recently launched the Eurocell
Select approved installer scheme for installers
of windows and doors, which aims to develop
a trusted network of installers across the
UK. The new initiative – which is backed by
CERTASS and FENSA – will allow installers
of Eurocell windows and doors to gain
certification following a training course and
aims to help tradespeople overcome what is
often termed a ‘cowboy’ reputation.
