HARDWARE
Our strongest cylinder yet
Nick Dutton, CEO of Brisant Secure, talks about the increased use of molybdenum
in Ultion WXM and why it makes this new cylinder even stronger.

extra molybdenum, the
metal that is 25% denser
than iron, integrated
within its design. We’ve
redesigned and improved
the materials used to
increase the strength and
durability that Ultion brings
and where there is strength,
there is security.
The BS EN1303 test requires
standard 3 Star locks to achieve
100,000 cycles. The test puts a
load on the key, automatically
turns the key and removes it
from the lock. Then it does it
again. If the lock and key meet
the required 100,000 cycles, it
can be sold in the UK with this
accreditation. Ultion WXM is still
going strong at 500,000 cycles.
It’s the extra molybdenum that is
keeping it going strong.
We have purposefully created
a lock that is at the top of its
game for quality, durability
and performance. Surviving
under duress is the key reason a
homeowner chooses a lock. That
cylinder has to keep the door
firmly locked and the intruder
out. It has to work with all sorts
of doors and resist every burglar
attack.
That’s a tall order for a cylinder,
but it is what Ultion WXM
has been designed to achieve.
Research has shown that over
Nick Dutton,
CEO of Brisant Secure
85% of door buyers stated that
security was the most important
factor when buying a door and
they’re prepared to pay for high
performance and build quality.
Take power tools as an
example. You can spend £50 to
£500 on a power drill. What
are your expectations? At the
lower end, you hope it makes a
hole when you get it home and
maybe, for the following year. But
would you expect the exact same
performance for 10 years? That’s
what the build quality of the top
end product brings with it.
If it’s your front door lock, the
expectation that it works in all
circumstances, especially when
under duress, is paramount. If it
fails, either you can’t enter your
home or the wrong person can.
The stakes are significantly higher
than for a power drill.
Ultion has been strengthened
throughout its design. In Ultion
WXM, the two-part plug has
increased engagement with

the new curved cap and this
entire section is moulded from
molybdenum and not brass.
This strengthening is then
coupled with the thicker WXM
key shape and composition.
Improved drill protection has
also been delivered; it still houses
20 anti-drill points, but the
core is shielded with the new
molybdenum plug. Lockdown
Mode becomes Double
Lockdown Mode with two
hardened attack pins engaging
when attacked.
The Ultion £1,000 security
guarantee continues to give the
homeowner that ‘money where
your mouth is’ level of confidence
that the door they are buying or
upgrading will fulfil that most
important factor. It will keep the
bad guys out.
We were determined to make
Ultion WXM even stronger and
more durable. At 500,000 cycles
and still going, we know we have
already achieved this. We are just
excited about how far it might
go now!
Feedback from homeowners
tells us that the increase in
breaking into people’s homes
to steal their car keys is at an
all-time high. Many burglars are
opportunistic, with intruders
checking people’s locks to see
how easy they are to penetrate,
through snapping or drilling,
to steal their car keys, music
systems, TVs and bank cards.
Policing on the street is low, so
it has become the responsibility
of the homeowner to protect
themselves and their goods. Once
their car is stolen, it rarely comes
back.
Lauren, a 24-year-old first-time
buyer said, “The one thing you
can never compromise on is
security. I can’t afford a house in
a fantastic area, but I can protect
the one I have bought with
Ultion cylinders.”
Brisant-Secure puts the
homeowner at the centre of
all product development. The
security of people’s possessions
and family members has driven
the design and production of
Ultion WXM to be the UK’s
proven strongest lock.
