Business as usual, but better Seven things you didn’t know about UL’s acquisition of Wintech » » LAST ISSUE, CLEARVIEW reported on the acquisition of Wintech Testing and Certification by UL. UL, which is over 125 years old, is a global safety science leader, while Wintech is well-known in fenestration as a testing and certification service to architects, building owners, manufacturers and others across the built environment community. The acquisition strengthens UL’s expertise in the field of building envelope evaluation, testing and certification; while simultaneously offering greater access to global markets for UK customers. Over the last twenty-five years, Wintech Testing and Certification has contributed to many high- caliber projects throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. Wintech’s employees will join and strengthen UL’s existing building envelope team. The group’s building science thought leadership and global center of excellence will be based out of the Telford, U.K. headquarters. In an official statement, at the time of acquisition, Kevin Faltin, vice president of UL Building and Life Safety Technologies division commented: “UL and Wintech Testing and Certification have a shared mission and complementary businesses.
