Business as usual, but better
Seven things you didn’t know about UL’s acquisition of Wintech
» » LAST ISSUE, CLEARVIEW
reported on the acquisition of
Wintech Testing and Certification
by UL.
UL, which is over 125
years old, is a global safety
science leader, while Wintech
is well-known in fenestration
as a testing and certification
service to architects, building
owners, manufacturers
and others across the built
environment community.
The acquisition strengthens
UL’s expertise in the field of
building envelope evaluation,
testing and certification; while
simultaneously offering greater
access to global markets for UK
customers.
Over the last twenty-five years,
Wintech Testing and Certification
has contributed to many high-
caliber projects throughout the
United Kingdom and Europe.
Wintech’s employees will join
and strengthen UL’s existing
building envelope team. The
group’s building science thought
leadership and global center of
excellence will be based out of the
Telford, U.K. headquarters.
In an official statement, at the
time of acquisition, Kevin Faltin,
vice president of UL Building
and Life Safety Technologies
division commented: “UL and
Wintech Testing and Certification
have a shared mission and
complementary businesses.
Working as one, UL and Wintech
Testing and Certification will
continue to grow the vision
that has brought us together,
that of becoming a global
leader in the field of building
envelope evaluation, testing and
certification.’’

by UL
Here, Gailord Nepp, former
managing director of Wintech
Testing and Certification and now
European business development
manager and Charlotte Cooper,
marketing manager outline the
seven most significant points
of this decision, proving that
it’s business as usual at UL (nee
Wintech) but better…
1. Wintech Testing
& Certification
was acquired by
American safety
science company,
UL in July 2019
with the aim to
provide a range of
building envelope
testing services
to European
customers.
2. It’ll still be
business as usual
at Wintech UL,
with all personnel
continuing in their
roles and providing
the high levels
of service their
customers have
come to expect.
