With the recent demises
of the Government
‘Green Deal’ initiative,
many of us are
wondering, what next?
»»Some are arguing that the
scheme, initially set-up to upgrade old and
draughty housing stock by encouraging millions
of households to take out loans to install
better energy efficient products, was deemed
a “total flop”.
Emplas’s, managing director Ryan Johnson,
exclusively shares his thoughts with
Clearview about the lack of clarity for the
fenestration industry and how windows and
glazing would or wouldn’t be included in the
scheme, leaving many never really buying-in
to the overall scheme.
Nigel Rees, GGF Group Chief Executive
also comments, ‘The announcement was
no surprise’, and tells how, the GGF had
constantly advised the DECC (Department
of Energy and Climate Change) on the
development of the Green Deal, ECO and
its lack of clarity towards the fitting of
windows and doors, meant it was never
going to work for the fenestration industry.
With such low numbers of glazing
installations, a combined total of only
0.1% of the whole scheme, I question if
the industry will actually miss the scheme,
which really didn’t impact for the masses
and became complicated for all to get their
teeth into.
Here’s hoping that the current
Government’s next brainchild to support
better energy efficiencies in the home,
will be done so with a representation and
inclusion from the industries which support
the quest to produce a country of better
sustainable homes.
Have a great month
