GLAZING GROWS WITH DISTINCT DIFFERENCE
» » THE UK’S LEADING COMPOSITE
door supplier Distinction Doors Ltd, has
reported that sales of prepped doors supplied
complete with the company’s exclusive glazed
units, have more than doubled in the first half
of 2019 compared with a similar period last
year with an increase of 109%.
Additionally, sales of glass units alone have
grown by more than one third compared to a
similar period last year. This growth has come
from customers of Distinction Doors who
prefer to glaze the units themselves and also
by fabricators that are choosing to glaze doors
of other brands with the Distinction product.
Distinction is reporting that buyers of
Distinction doors enjoy the simplified logistics
of a single source supplier whilst the large
stockholding together with the breadth and
depth of the range, also attracts interest.
Distinction’s ability to offer a full prepping,
painting and glazing facility is responsible
for the increased demand for prepped
products, says the company. Manning, shifts
and investment in new equipment have all
increased to deal with current and anticipated
demand in the company’s glazing operation,
with the number of glazing tables being
doubled since May.

SALES POWER NEAR-30% AHEAD
OF A DECLINING MARKET
» » DECEUNINCK HAS ANNOUNCED
year-on-year sales up 18% to the end of July,
in stark contrast with the market. According
to installation statistics from FENSA, volume
in H1 2019 was down 8.2% compared to the
same period in 2018.
“We’re nearly 30% up on the market,”
says Deceuninck MD Rob McGlennon.
“So Deceuninck must be getting it right
for fabricators and installers. Our colour
percentage rose to 60% of sales in June and
it’s still climbing. All our top 20 customers are
selling over 50% of their sales in colour against
a market which is less than 30% colour. Many
fabricators sell well below this.
Rob explained: “Commercial sales are flying
too but we have more contracts than fabricators to
make them, so if any commercial fabricators are
reading this get in touch, because we need you.
Partnering fabricators rather than just supplying
them has proven to be a very successful policy.
Powering their growth, has powered ours.
“The market has fallen, but it’s busy-busy
for Deceuninck fabricators and installers.”

SOMETHING NEW, FOR SOME THINGS ‘OLD’
» » THE HERITAGE PUTTY
from Hodgson Sealants provides
the visual appearance of a
traditional putty, yet benefits from
the fact that it can be painted
within a matter of hours with
water or solvent based paints. The
introduction of the black colour
will enable businesses to restore
and replace windows where there is
a requirement for slim or reduced
sightline heritage glazing. Heritage
glazing includes applications in
conservation areas, listed buildings
and in period properties.
Gary Thomas, commercial
director of Hodgson Sealants
commented: “Our heritage putty
is a strong seller for us and part of

our heritage glazing systems that
have been developed and tested
here in the UK. The introduction
of black will further support the
requirements of our customers
and also to address more of the
steel window segment.”
Specifically developed and
tested so that it’s suitable for use
in contact with the edge sealant of
insulated glass units and the PVB
interlayer of laminated glass, the
new putty can be used for internal
and external applications and is
isocyanate, silicone and solvent
free; durable and permanently
elastic.
