PROUD SPONSOR OF INDUSTRY NEWS INDUSTRYNEWS Annual Report Reflects Strength and Stability » » THE GLASS AND GLAZING Federation (GGF) has released its Annual Report 2019 on its activity and performance for the year ending 31st December 2018. The report saw the GGF gain a record 67 new members during a year of change, influence and preparation as the regulations and standards came under Government scrutiny due to the inquiry in the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy and the UK’s pending exit from the European Union. The GGF’s increased support for consumer-facing members was evident with MyGlazing.com achieving record audience numbers of over 200,000 homeowners. In addition, the report also highlighted the outstanding background work of the GGF technical team and the ongoing political activity the Federation carried out during the period. The accounts yet again showed the organisation’s formidable financial strength and stability. John Agnew, GGF President commented, “Following a difficult transitional year, the GGF has ensured it maintains its position as the leading trade organisation in the industry.” To access the GGF Annual Report please visit the GGF website: https://www.ggf.org. uk/publications/annual-reports/ Founding Lancashire Ambassadors: set a course for success 10 STEPS TO MANAGEMENT (AND BEYOND) » » MEMBERS OF THE Emplas management team have successfully completed an Institute of Management accredited training programme. Delivered as part of the trade specialist’s continuous business improvement programme, the 10-module ‘Engaging Leadership’ programme was delivered by independent training provider, Beyond Theory. Covering everything from customer experience skills, project management, to employee health and well-being, 10 members of the Emplas and T&K Home Improvements team, successfully completed the course this summer. With 15% of its technical and customer services team made up from former or current apprentices, and with ambitions to grow this to 20% across the business by the end of next year, Emplas already has one of the industry’s most established apprenticeships programmes. Those taking part were selected from right across the business. This included production, transport, customer services, commercial and IT teams as well as two managers from Emplas’ in- house retail business, T&K. Modules were broken down into leadership v. management; time management and prioritisation; project planning; performance management; team building; coaching; change management; and presentation skills, with each module focussed on the practical application of ‘classroom learning’ in an operational environment. www.emplas.co.uk 16 » N OV 2019 » CL EARVI E W- UK . C O M » » VEKA UK’S MD DAVE Jones joined fellow Lancashire Ambassadors working together to amplify and enhance the profile and reputation of Lancashire as a place to live, visit, work, study and invest. Industry-leading PVCu systems supplier VEKA UK has been based in Burnley since 1986, and is proud to be a major employer for the area; with the majority of its 380-strong staff living within the local BB postcode. The ambassadors had a wide- ranging and frank discussion about the opportunities and challenges faced in their sectors, the diversity of the Lancashire identity, infrastructure, skills and retention and the fast- moving digital landscape; each sharing their views on how these influence and impact on business in Lancashire and how working together to champion the county on a regional, national and international level, they can help bring even greater recognition to the county. Dave Jones highlighted: “Even in what some may see as more ‘traditional’ manufacturing businesses, the required skills are increasingly digital, and we’re very lucky to have such a wealth of talent, innovation and training opportunities here in Lancashire. vekauk.com/careers/
