Red, red rose:
Lancashire and Proud
» » HAVING RECENTLY BECOME AN
official Lancashire Ambassador alongside the
likes of Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff, VEKA
UK has further demonstrated pride in the
company’s Lancashire roots by becoming an
official Patron for Lancashire Business Day
2019. VEKA UK is a major manufacturer and
valued employer for the region. The company
was named ‘Manufacturing Business of the
Year’ at the 2019 Red Rose Business awards
and ‘Employer of the Year’ at the same event
in 2018.
This year’s Lancashire Business Day
event will be held on November 27, (the
date the county first sent representatives to
parliament more than 700 years ago) and
will take place in one of the county’s newest
and most exclusive venues, with the theme
of #LancashireAndProud. It will feature high
profile speakers and in-depth panel discussions
focusing on the issues affecting Lancashire
businesses. There will also be showcases of the
best the county has to offer, with locally-
sourced food, drinks and entertainment
throughout the event, and the opportunity
for all delegates to network and meet with
potential customers and suppliers. FIRE DOOR

EDGETECH MARKS PASSING OF
FOUNDER MICHAEL GLOVER
» » EDGETECH IS SAD TO ANNOUNCE
the death of Michael Glover, the company’s
founder.
Michael started Edgetech in 1987, and was
one of the key creative drivers behind what
would become the company’s flagship product
– Super Spacer.
Super Spacer, the pioneering warm-edge
spacer, went on to help transform world
glazing, and has been fitted in tens of millions
of windows all around the world.
In 1989, Edgetech became part of Lauren
International, but Michael remained
intimately involved in the business. In 2011,
the company was bought by Quanex Building
Products.
Michael leaves behind an amazing legacy
of innovation, and a vision that’s helped
shape the fenestration industry into what it is

infographic that uncovers recent statistics
around fire door safety and highlights the
risks around non-compliance.
As well as explaining how fire can spread
fast, Abloy also makes recommendations
on how to make premises safe from fire,
and discusses fire door regulations and
responsibility – as well as the penalties for
non-compliance.
Pat Jefferies, Commercial Director of
Abloy UK, comments: “Fire Door Safety
Week gave us a relevant platform to
highlight these issues, but fire door safety
should be front of mind all year round –
especially when the ultimate cost from
non-compliance can be the loss of life.
“That’s why Abloy is committed to
educating anyone responsible for the
specification and installation of fire doors
through our Academy – whether that’s
an architect, specifier, systems integrator,
landlord or facilities manager.
“We’ve been training delegates at the
Abloy Academy on the points raised in this
infographic and so much more for over a
decade, and are proud to help ensure public
safety through fire door safety education
for many more decades to come.”
