HARDWARE& SECURITY Securing Standards In our maturing market legislation forms the backbone of the building industry, and rightly so. Here at Yale Door and Window Solutions, we believe meeting standards is about more than compliance; it’s leading the way, choosing assurance over nominal cost-savings, and most importantly, manufacturing and installing top quality products. » » ON 1ST OCTOBER 2018, AN updated version of the PAS 24 standard, which covers enhanced security doorsets, came into effect. PAS 24:2016 is now mandatory for all new developments or refurbishment projects that wish to meet Secured by Design (SBD), and this includes the requirement for TS008 letterplates to be installed on all doorsets. What’s more, a recent advice note from The Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) stated that any one supplying or installing new products into existing properties should meet the requirements of Part B, E, L, M and Q of the Building Regulations. ‘higher standards do not always mean higher costs; ensuring that the doorsets you supply are fully compliant, ultimately saves costs in the long-term’ 64 » N OV 2018 » CL EARVI E W- UK . C O M TS008:2015 certified letterplates are specifically referenced within the Building Regulation’s Approved Document Q as being shown to protect against various attack methods, including letterplate ‘fishing’. As a result of this new mandatory legislation, we’ve developed our new Yale Postmaster Professional letterplate, which is the most rigorously tested TS008 product on the market and helps OEMs meet the demand for compliant doorsets. Paul Atkinson, Commercial Director for Yale Door and Window Solutions, explains: “With new and calculated burglary methods being reported, it is vital that we provide products that help our customers adhere to the latest standards. Our new TS008 Yale Postmaster Professional letterplate combines superior security, a modern design and a range of unique features, making it an unrivalled product within the current letterplate market. “It has an external austenitic 304 stainless steel letter flap that opens 180 degrees to help eliminate excess leverage on pivot points and a complete peripheral seal on the external flap to help form a thermal and acoustic barrier. “We’ve ensured that there is sufficient space between the door cut out and the outer flange in order to aid with the fabrication process. It can be altered to fit a range of door thicknesses with its unique telescopic feature and it’s incredibly easy to fit, with just four fixings. “The Yale Postmaster Professional is available in a range of finishes including polished, brushed, satin silver, gold, black and white, with colour matching inside and out if required, and its elegant and slim design makes it suitable even for narrow hallways. It also has no sharp corners, reducing the risk of injury to children and pets when held open by packages and newspapers.” We understand that keeping up to date on legislation can be challenging in today’s busy climate. That’s why our Yale Sales Team are always on hand to offer information and advice on industry standards, including PAS 24, Secured by Design, Approved Document Q and TS008. It’s also important to remember that higher standards do not always mean higher costs; ensuring that the doorsets you supply are fully compliant, ultimately saves costs in the long-term. www.yaledoorandwindowsolutions.co.uk
