Today KÖMMERLING is a brand,
alongside KBE and Trocal within
profine Group GmbH which is owned
by Hidden Peak Capital and ultimately
by CEO Dr Peter Mrosik. The group is
a world-leading provider in the PVCu
extrusions industry and supplies its
products to over 70 countries.
The Group boasts a consolidated
turnover of around 700 million
euros and a production capacity of
approximately 450,000 tons of high
quality profiles per year. profine also
has a payroll of 3,500 employees
at 29 sites in 22 countries with
production facilities in Europe, USA,
China and India.
3. Sustainability
KÖMMERLING was founded as a commercial
enterprise back in 1897 by Karl Kömmerling. In
the early years the KÖMMERLING Company
manufactured adhesives and synthetic rubber. In 1957
it commenced PVC-U roller shutter manufacturing
operations, then in 1967 it entered the window
market by starting to produce high quality PVC-U
window profiles.
KÖMMERLING products fulfil all of the
requirements for thermal insulation
and the associated energy efficiency. In
terms of figures; customers manufacture
about 13 million window units each year,
helping to save about 300 million litres of
fuel oil. This also saves about 750 million
kilograms of CO2 that would otherwise
escape into the atmosphere – equivalent
to the quantity absorbed by a forested
area the size of 80,000 football fields.
In 2004, KÖMMERLING completely
eliminated the heavy metal lead in the
virgin material for all of its windows
and now use stabilisers based on a
calcium and zinc, mixed by the group and
marketed as Greenline. The result is a
reduction in the consumption of lead by
6,500 tonnes – equivalent to over 160
truckloads.
For several years now profine Group has
also been utilising recycled PVCu within
the production of co-extruded profiles,
to further enhance its environmental
credentials.
