GROUP BUSINESS MARKETING Manager, Gary Maddock-Greene, explained,“ Having enjoyed a period of rapid expansion and investment, the next natural step was to introduce high level individuals to ensure continuity of quality and service to our loyal customers. Dean will oversee all core company functions including sales, marketing, finance, product development, procurement and manufacturing.”
Gary continued,“ With a strong and envied track record, Dean is a sales and action orientated professional with over 17 years’ experience at Managing Director / Divisional Director level in the building product markets. Having led both manufacturing and distribution businesses, developing and retaining market leadership in highly competitive sectors, Dean’ s appointment is a clear message to the industry that Hallmark will continue its story of growth and development of new products and markets.”
Clearview magazine caught up with Dean, who has recently repatriated from Fethiye, Turkey, to live in Hull, to be close to the business, on what was just day 5 on the job …
“ I’ ve created and am currently working my 100-day plan,” Dean explained,“ It incorporates a review of all business activities, analysing products and market trends and rebuilding the team around my values and strategic objectives for the business, to ultimately develop a 5-year strategy for the organisation.”
As a first priority, Dean is conducting a complete review of all aspects of business activities including decorative door panel manufacture, 44mm composite door manufacture, twin rebate composite door manufacture, fire doors, aluminium door panel manufacture and GRP building products plant i. e. roof canopies. By assessing the KPIs of every aspect of the business, Dean’ s aim is to eventually cultivate a culture of accountability, where staff have the expertise, support and confidence to act autonomously, ultimately streamlining and simplifying processes to reduce waste and mistakes, as well as improve efficiency.
‘ there is definite scope for Hallmark to increase its market share with good products, at a reasonable price that are delivered on time’
“ Hallmark has received significant investment in plant, machinery and I. T.,” Dean explains.“ As a result we have made enhancements to our Kolorbond paint plant and powder coating plant, doubled our 44mm composite door manufacturing capacity, introduced a glass toughening business complete with sealed glass unit manufacturing facility, developed our decorative glass plant and increased our own fleet to 9 custom built delivery vehicles.
“ The company benefits from a great team of very capable people. We are poised for growth and in a solid position to take
HALLMARK GROUP PRODUCTS advantage of the market opportunities. The door panel market is stable and there is definite scope for Hallmark to increase its market share with good products, at a reasonable price that are delivered on time.”
As well as capitalising on existing areas of the business, Hallmark also has some exciting new launches still to come, which will include a twin rebated composite door planned for next year. This will be supported by the development of‘ Doorbuilder’, an online composite door pricing and ordering facility. Also coming soon are coloured PVC panels, a range of trade composite doors, a new suite of door panel, as well as composite door and aluminium door brochures.
Dean’ s enthusiasm is infectious and it is easily apparent that he is already relishing his new role.“ I love my work, I love what I do,” he enthuses.“ This has been a great move for me and it was a great opportunity to work with a good friend, Hallmark’ s Group Chairman, Baden Lloyd Sonley.
“ I am a big believer that mediocre actions deliver mediocre results so I try not to procrastinate and aim to be as proactive as possible. Teamwork and good communication is essential within an ethos of empowerment, where employees take pride and ownership of what they do, feeling confident that they have the support of the business. After all, we are only human and you have to occasionally fall over to realise it hurts. But it’ s how you move on from that and apply the lessons you have learnt to the decisions you make in future,” Dean concludes.
