GETTING TOUGHER WITH ABS CYLINDER
»»According to trade
fabricator, Glazerite Windows Limited, all
their Secured by Design accredited doors will
be fitted as standard with the TS007 3* Sold
Secure Diamond Grade Cylinder from ABS.
The ABS anti-bump, snap, pick and drill
cylinder also incorporates a unique, patented
snap secure, locking, technology which
allows sacrificial sections to break off during
an attack, leaving the door fully secure but
usually openable by key afterwards.
Jason Thompson, Glazerite Director, said:
“These new cylinders not only offer a higher
level of security than our previous cylinders,
but also qualify for the SBD and Maco Secure
PLUS accreditations without the need for a
cylinder guard or security door handle.
“We were immediately impressed with the
cylinder and from now on they will be fitted
as standard to all SBD accredited Glazerite
doors and offered as an option on all our other
doors.”
As well as qualifying for SBD and Maco
Secure PLUS, the ABS has achieved a
three star rating under the TS00:2012
British Kitemark, has Secured by Design
Accreditation and is the only retro-fit lock
to have attained the Sold Secure Diamond
Standard.

5 STAR TRI-SLIDER OFFERS 3 WAY VIEWS
»»Patio Door Specialists (PDS)
has recently supplied three Kömmerling triple
track Tri-Slider patio doors for a tiled garden
room installation near the Malvern Hills, by
Kidderminster based 5 Star Windows and
Conservatories.
This project involved the installation of
three triple track Tri-Slider patio doors around
the sides and front of the garden room,
incorporating a traditional roof construction
to match the main fabric of the house.
Tri-Slider is an innovative triple track patio
door from PDS, offering a genuine alternative
to a bi-folding door with around 25% more
glass area, based on a 4.5m span. All three
door sashes can slide both ways making it an
excellent commercial room divider.
The home owner was thrilled with the end
project as Richard Manser, director of 5 Star
Windows and Conservatories added, “This is
a truly stunning installation from all aspects
and the Tri-Slider has made the garden room
considerably lighter.”

CE Marking one year on…
»»Build Check, UKAS
accredited Notified Body for CE
Marking for windows and doors,
is still being asked about CE
Marking from companies yet to
comply with the new legislation
brought in on 1 July 2013.
“We suggested earlier this
year that up to 80 per cent of
companies may not be complaint
with the law, and we don’t see this
improving,” says CE Marking
expert and Technical Director at
Build Check Richard Bate.“The
biggest problem for companies is
how to keep up to date with CE
Marking legislation.”
Changes to hardware may have
a knock-on effect to safety device
testing; different glazing options
can affect thermal transmittance;
and switching window systems
requires updating the Declaration
of Performance.
In direct response to the
growing problem for many
companies, Build Check
Publications has added a full

advice centre around The
Oracle to help keep visitors
and subscribers legal and up to
date. “We are now seeing some
companies receive visits from
Trading Standards, one year on
we believe it’s only a matter of
time before the first cases come
to court.”
