Month 2019, encouraging
UK homeowners to think
about home security as part
of their DIY plans this April
– and giving retailers and
manufacturers the chance
to capitalise on increased
interest in DIY over the home
improvement season.
Organised by BHETA,
National Home Improvement
Month challenges the public to
renovate their homes and share
the changes on social media. The
awareness campaign runs every
April and provides a significant
boost to the DIY industry.
“Yale have a vested interest
in the DIY market and we’re
proud to be supporting National
Home Improvement Month,”
says Stephen Roberts, Marketing
Manager at Yale UK. “The
initiative is designed to reignite
homeowners’ interest in DIY
projects, encouraging extra
footfall in stores and driving
online sales of DIY and home
improvement products, so
it’s hugely important to the
sector.”
This year’s National Home
Improvement Month comes
as burglary is on the rise in the
UK*, yet around a quarter of
UK homeowners still have no
security measures in place**.
Meanwhile, the growth of
smart home security has placed
new possibilities at homeowners’
fingertips, allowing them to
protect, monitor and control
their home security anywhere
and at any time, via smartphone
or tablet.
“Security may not be the first
thing people think of when it
comes to DIY, but recent rises
in burglary mean it’s arguably
the most important do-it-
yourself upgrade homeowners
can make,” continues Stephen
Roberts.
“As well as this, the growth of
smart home technology means
homeowners can enhance their
protection against burglars
simply by purchasing one or two
products which work together
and can be self-installed. This
presents a real opportunity for
DIY retailers who have a Smart
Home offering.”
