GLASS&SEALEDUNITS
JOINT PARTNERSHIP
SECURES NHS CONTRACT
Morley Glass & Glazing has won a
contract to manufacture and supply
500 Uni-Blind® integral commercial
blinds for the prestigious new 350bed Dumfries & Galloway Hospital.
»»MORLEY GLASS IS
working in partnership with CMS
Window Systems, who secured
the circa £5m fenestration
contract with main contractor
Laing O’Rourke and will
manufacture and install Kawneer
AA100 curtain walling for the
main hospital building plus its
three annexes, incorporating
Kawneer AA720 system doors
and a mix of pivot and casement
windows.
CMS will use high performance
sealed units manufactured by
GLASSOLUTIONS, combined
with the Kawneer aluminium
systems to blend superb
aesthetics with thermal and
acoustic insulation, plus reliable
solar control. Key to achieving this
is the specification of COOL-LITE
SKN 165 by Saint-Gobain Glass.
Wards within the new £270m
hospital will be created on a 28
single room model, all of which
will have en-suite facilities. This
will provide improved privacy,
dignity and confidentiality for
patients, whilst reducing the risk
of cross infection.

SLEEK TOUCH FOR
BMW SHOWROOM
»»BMW IS SYNONYMOUS
with quality and luxury so
when the Chester dealership
of the Halliwell Jones BMW
franchise recently underwent a
refurbishment and expansion
programme worth £1.5 million,
it was important that every
aspect reflected the quality of
the BMW brand.
When it came to an internal
balustrade, the dealership had
specified clear glass to create a
clean and sophisticated finish
that wouldn’t detract from
the beauty of the cars. As well
as straightforward rectangles,
the balustrade also had several
unusual shapes that meant a
glazing expert was needed to
supply the glass. The contractor
turned to specialist glazing

manufacturers, TuffX, for
support.
TuffX recommended 15mm
toughened glass with polished
edges for all the pieces needed
for the balustrade. As well as
providing the sophisticated look
required, the glass would also
meet all safety requirements, an
essential element for a public
space such as a car showroom.
In total, TuffX provided 20m2
of glass for the balustrade,
which was all manufactured at
its Merseyside headquarters.
As demonstrated in this
project, glass balustrades are
perfect for design-led, high
specification projects in the
commercial sector.
