When the time came to replace the cottage’s ageing timber windows, the owners were keen to preserve the heritage beauty of their home but also wanted the thermally efficient, low maintenance benefits of modern PVC-U windows. The 15 windows were manufactured by longstanding Spectus fabricator, Universal Trade Frames and installed by Manchester’s Irlam Glass. The customer specified mechanically jointed windows with the popular contemporary colour Agate Grey on the exterior and white on the interior. Monkey tail handles and astragal bars complemented the cottage’s heritage looks. Colin Ashton of Irlam Glass commented: “Very few fabricators were able to offer the combination of Agate Grey and a mechanically-jointed finish. Universal Trade Frames was one of the few who could. We 40 » JUN 2019 » CL EARVI E W- UK . C O M were delighted with the job from start to finish – everything ran very smoothly and the attention to detail was excellent. We would happily recommend Universal Trade Frames to anyone.” Installation of the windows on site went smoothly too. Astragal bars on the Spectus Flush Casement Window are factory-fitted and Colin highlighted the benefits this brings. “The factory-fitted astragal bars meant we didn’t need any extra time on site and fitting the windows was no different to fitting standard casement windows, so we were able to complete the job faster.” The project is a stunning example of how sensitively designed PVC-U windows can enhance period properties. The team at Irlam are delighted with the results – as are the homeowners. Brian Kruger, Managing Director of Universal Trade Frames, concluded: “We’re seeing increasing demand for heritage products such as the Spectus Flush Casement Window and the market-leading Spectus Vertical Slider. It’s because they deliver everything modern homeowners want – aesthetic integrity, low maintenance, thermal efficiency and exceptional security.” www.spectus.co.uk
