Who said Composite Doors are
only for the front of a house?

Marketing Manager for Truedor from IG
Doors explores the myth that Composite
Doors are only for the front of a house.
There is a myth that has grown that
Composite Doors are front doors, and rarely
do people think about them for the rear of
their homes.
Perhaps that is because businesses like ours,
and others along the supply chain always focus
on the front, pointing out the value both
technically and aesthetically of a new front door
as the first impression people get of your home,
and of you as an individual. We all focus on the
immediate impact a new front door can make
to the appearance of your home and the feel-
good factor that goes with it.
Of course, there are lots of reasons why
people buy new front doors – often for purely
technical reasons – a desire for more security,
a desire for more thermal efficiency, simply a
desire to change an ageing, failing door.
The reality is that the vast majority of
reasons for buying a composite door for the
front are equally relevant when it comes to the
rear – and in some cases more so, certainly in
the case of security.
There is also a feeling that back doors are
‘just’ functional, less used than the front door
of a property, and rarely seen by anybody
but the homeowner, so the appearance is not
important – not a view I necessarily share.
Why do back doors have to be simple
designs with a panel at the bottom and glass
at the top, or even more commonly a ‘2xG’
– a phrase so common amongst fabricators
and installers that it has become a part of the
common language of the industry?
It’s time to move on as an industry and as
the supply chain to homeowners – let’s explore
and explain the benefits of a composite door
as a product suitable for the rear of the home
with the same enthusiasm as we have always
done as a product suitable for the front.
Let’s bring back doors to the front of our
thinking…

known for offering support to a diverse range of
causes, from local schools and sports clubs, to
its annual chosen charities.
The Burnley-based PVCu systems supplier
was barking up the right tree when it sponsored
Production Planner, Yvonne Gray’s, Flyball
team ‘WOW Wonderdogs’. The team has gone
from strength to strength over recent years with
the company’s backing, and recently held a
successful seminar with global guest stars.
Flyball is a fast-paced sport that sees dogs
race over a number of hurdles, to reach a
spring-loaded box which releases a tennis ball
that must be brought back to the start. Teams
of four dogs race against each other in a relay
format and the first team to have all dogs cross
the finish line, without error, wins the heat.
Yvonne’s son Dan and his wife established the
team in 2009 and were proud to recently host
a well-attended seminar for followers of the
sport.
Dan explains: “The VEKA UK Group
has been kind enough to sponsor us for a
number of years and this allows us to buy new
equipment and develop systems to support the
club and the training of its dogs. It enables us
to keep on top of the best and most current
training methods.
“We recently organised a seminar where we
invited the Flyball World Record holders over
from Las Vegas - Touch N Go Flyball Team.
These are the best in the ‘business’ and offered
some great training tips that lots of teams are
sure to benefit from.
“The weekend after the seminar we also
broke the UK and European record, making us
the number one fastest team ever in the history
of European racing!
“This was something that made us all very
proud, but was all the more special as it was
an achievement I had promised my stepfather
Shane we would achieve, before he sadly passed
away last July. Shane was a key part of the
team as well as being The VEKA UK Group’s
Supply Chain Director, and I know he would
be pleased to see the company continuing to
support our efforts.”
