HARDWARE& SECURITY
JOINT VENTURE FOR NEW FULLY
REVERSIBLE HINGE RANGE
» » JUST WEEKS AFTER IT ANNOUNCED
it was bringing the AXOR range of European
tilt and turn hardware to the UK, Mila has
followed up with the launch of an enhanced
security hinge for fully reversible windows,
developed in partnership withEuropean
manufacturer Spilka.
Mila’s aim is to ensure that fabricators
operating in niche sectors have access to the
same quality, performance and above all value
in their hardware choices as those operating in
the mass market.
Managing Director Richard Gyde said: “Tilt
and turn windows typically only account for
around 8% of the total window market and
fully reversible windows around 4%, but, for
fabricators specialising in the social housing
market in particular, it can be a significant part
of their business, so we’re investing in bringing
new hardware products to the market which
give them access to a much wider choice.”
The new AURA fully reversible hinges offer
what Mila is calling the ‘perfect balance’ of
high security and smooth operation. They are
available with profile specific head slides to
suit any standard PVC-U,
timber and aluminium
fully reversible profiles
with 12mm x 32mm
fitting grooves.
All have been independently tested
to the latest European and British Standards
and meet the Police Preferred Specification
requirements of Secured by Design. This
means they can be used alongside products
like Mila’s ProLinea twin cam espag and
NightSecure strikers to achieve a full Secured
by Design window, and, with security blocks
fixed into the groove on the top frame for
the head slide to lock behind, for PAS24
accreditation and ADQ compliance.
The AURA hinges are dual branded because
they represent a joint venture between Mila
and Norway-based Spilka and bring together
the knowledge and experience of both
businesses and their shared commitment to
service and quality.
In operation, the hinges feature a simple
press and hold release mechanism which
enables the window to move from the
80-100mm safety position, through the
150-290mm ventilation position and then
to the reversed position for cleaning. Of
course, this mechanism can be locked for
safety, restricting the opening to the 100mm
maximum.

Big Steps on Safety and Security
Bigger is better, especially when it comes to security and safety on emergency exit
doors. Now, architects and specifiers can have PAS 24 accredited, double doors up
to 2.6 metres wide and 3 metres high, thanks to Jack Aluminium’s latest testing.
» » JEFF PEARSON, SALES AND
Marketing Director at Jack Aluminium
explains: “We are always looking for ways
to make the TD68 Thermal Door an
even better option for public sector and
commercial buildings. This latest innovation
means that bigger PAS 24 accredited,
emergency exit doors can be specified
without any compromise on safety and
security.
“Before now, double door emergency
exits had to have the master door leaf
secured with a lock or deadbolt at night, so
a member of staff has to lock the doors at
night and unlock them in the morning. This
can be time-consuming in a large school or
hospital and there’s the potential for missing
a door and leaving the property vulnerable to
opportunist thieves.

“This clever hardware removes the need for
a managed security solution. The doors remain
secure 24/7, without the addition of bolts. In
emergency situations, occupants can hit the
slave door leaf or the master door leaf and
escape quickly.”
The PAS 24 test was done on a TD68
Thermal Door set 3 metres high and
2.6 metres wide in partnership with GU
Automatic Doors in Stratford.
The new hardware is available now
and combined with the cleverly designed
TD68 Thermal Door offers a completely
robust, thermally efficient, safe and secure,
non-managed solution for sites including
educational buildings and medical facilities.
