COMPOSITE DOOR manufacturer Doorsmart Ltd added Distinction’ s nxt-gen door to its portfolio last year and Director Craig Broadley says it’ s
A‘ smart’ partnership
made business much easier;“ The door is far easier to manufacture and has less wastage but for us the stand out innovation is the flushfitted beading. It has reduced our stockholding because all the doors come with a pre-fit internal bead and therefore there is no need for cassettes.
It’ s helped us with order processing too because there are fewer component parts to order and hold in stock. It’ s design technology at its best and has made a big difference to our business.”
Doorsmart has been a Distinction customer for 12 years and manufactures the Distinction
Doors’ Signature range as well as nxt-gen. Craig is clear why his company chooses Distinction as their composite partner:“ We partner with Distinction Doors because in our opinion they offer the best slabs on the market today.”
Doorsmart is a family-run company based in Wolverhampton and has customers throughout the Midlands as well as London and the home counties. It combines a highquality manufacturing set up with an expert, personal service to deliver an exceptional customer experience, something that has helped it to grow steadily year on year.
SHINING DEBUT INSTALLATION
»»
THE RADICAL LUMI frameless window system from Apeer has been one of the runaway successes of the decade – and now its successor, the retrofitfriendly Lumi2 has begun to cause as much of a stir, even after its debut installation. Dublinbased Harvest Energy was the first to put in the new system and immediately won another order on the strength of it, with a third signed up soon after and more homeowners already showing an interest.
Lumi2 was designed with retrofit in mind – with its slimmer, 70mm outerframe depth and 28mm double glazing – but, as Harvest owner Jason Peters explained, that is only one of two major benefits the system has for retailers:
“ The systems look pretty much the same when they’ re installed but the price difference gives a big strategic advantage. Lumi gives us something no one else can offer and Lumi2 lets us offer the same look priced between PVC-U and the original Lumi. It also gives us something we can work down to where we have quoted for the original Lumi, especially in commercial and new-build pitches; that is very valuable.”
PAS24 AND PART Q APPROVAL

HWL TRADE FRAMES’ trailblazing non-glass bonded Residence 9 Window has sailed through independent PAS24 testing to achieve Part Q approval.
Coming less than a month after achieving a series of top-rated passes under BS EN 6375- 1 weather testing, Graham Howatson, Director, HWL, said:“ We have had a great response from installers to frame-only R9 supply because it offers them significant installation efficiencies and they can buy-in IGU’ s from their usual supplier. With PAS24 approval just weeks after exceptionally positive weather test results, the argument for buying in R9 un-glazed is absolutely compelling.”
Conducted in partnership with the Residence Collection, the HWL window was put through its paces under PAS24 by independent testing house, Exova, This returned a series of clear passes under PAS24 test requirements for mechanical load and manual intervention testing. The BS EN 6375- 1 Weather Test results, again by Exova, give HWL’ s R9 non-glass bonded window an Exposure Category of 1600, a Class 3 Air Permeability Rating( 600pa); a Class 9A( 600pa) Water Tightness Rating; and top Class C4( 1600pa), resistance to wind.
