LOCKEX 2018 - SECURITY AND FIRE SAFETY
OPENS DOORS TO BRAND NEW AUDIENCE
The second ever Lockex took place this
June at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena, and a
slight change of criteria, when it came to
exhibitors, meant a host of new visitors
were invited and welcomed to the event.

Safety, brought to you by the same team
behind Clearview, Pro Installer, and The
Locksmith Journal, originated as a trade show
for locksmiths and auto locksmiths in 2016.
The ever-increasing importance and prevalence
of fire safety over the past 12 months,
however, saw the organisers expand the remit
of the show, attracting a diverse audience,
which this year included specifiers, architects,
facilities managers, and planners.
The three-day event hosted exhibitors
from all over the world from ‘one man band’
locksmiths that brought along lock-picking
tools for visitors to have a go at, to multi-
national organisations specialising in fire and
security doors and hardware.
In addition to the individual trade stands,
the brand new ‘Pavilion of Trade Bodies’ saw
organisations such as the GGF, Secured by
Design, DHF, NSI, SSAIB, FDIS, and UK
Construction Week on hand with all the
latest compliance information, CPD and
certification advice.

Also different for 2018 was the reimagined
workshop space that was set up in the
centre of the Ricoh Arena and housed eight
‘demo zones’ for professional seminars and
exclusive training sessions. Exhibitors that
took advantage of this opportunity included
Warrior Doors’ Brett Barratt, explaining the
company’s ethos on providing aesthetically-
pleasing high security doors and screens, by
balancing the implications of design features
with a product that resists ballistic attack
by raiders using tools and vehicles, Hoppe,
who led a one-hour workshop looking
at the specification of ironmongery for
security; helping to understand regulations,
standards, and the Secured by Design
initiative, and a presentation of the new
Zero1 electronic security product range from
ISEO. Meanwhile, perhaps the most timely
and topical of all, the Guild of Architectural
Ironmongers (GAI) hosted several one-
hour seminars on ironmongery for fire and
escape doors to help explain the regulations,
standards and the legal, financial, and ethical
consequences of ignoring the risks regarding
correct specification, supply, maintenance, and
inspection of fire doors.
‘visitors literally leaving with
boxes piled with products
they had purchased
from various stands’
Covering a range of serious and significant
topics across the weekend, guests to the show
also enjoyed exclusive product launches,
competitions, and show discounts, with some
visitors literally leaving with boxes piled with
products they had purchased from various
stands, and of course, plenty of free ‘swag’ that
you come to expect from a trade show. The
Burg Wächter stand proved to be especially
popular with a German café plus free beers for
guests every afternoon, while a live broadcast
from the event by Fix Radio on Friday
added to the atmosphere, and provided a fun
soundtrack for the weekend.
