EXCELLENCE IN GLAZING ACKNOWLEDGED FOR NEW CROP OF APPRENTICES

A GROUP OF APPRENTICES FROM Tayside window and door manufacturer Sidey, have passed their qualifications with flying colours. The trainees have achieved pass grades in SVQ level II certificates in‘ Fabrication of Glass Supporting Structures’, after being enrolled on a group apprentice programme. The year-long scheme was run by Sidey in collaboration with training provider The Vocational College, and the successful students were recently awarded their qualifications at the company’ s headquarters in Perthshire.
As the 41 apprentices are in full-time work, the vocational training qualification was rooted in online learning and communication, with periodical face-to-face group sessions and one-to-one mentoring. The course offers both knowledge of the glass and glazing industry and a firm grounding in the essentials of Maths and English in practice. Although the theory of the industry is important, there’ s no substitute for practical learning and this is often the best and quickest way students
learn. Sidey also benefitted from fully-funded training, as part of The Vocational College’ s apprenticeship programme, which was funded via their funding partner in Scotland, In- Training.
With over 200 staff and operations across Scotland, Sidey is one of the premier suppliers and installers of windows, doors, conservatories and kitchens in Scotland. Sidey has over 70 years’ experience, remaining competitively at the forefront of its industry
thanks to staff keeping up to speed with the latest legislation and work practices. In addition to carrying out the fitting and installation of its products, Sidey also manufactures its own range of windows and doors.
Robert Fitzpatrick from Sidey, commented:“ As part of our ongoing commitment to our customers, we ensure that our operatives at whatever level of the company are provided with the highest level of training we can offer. I’ m very proud of the apprentices who have completed these qualifications. It’ s a testament to their commitment of being successful within their roles that they have persevered and passed the courses.”
Paul Gray, business development manager at The Vocational College travelled to Perth in Scotland to present the certificates to the successful participants at Sidey:“ Our training programme is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who wants to make a career in the manufacturing and installation industry.”
