Some candidates have begun the 12-month
BIT (Business Improvement Techniques) Lean
Manufacturing Apprenticeships and others the
four-month NVQ Level 2 PMO (Performing
Manufacturing Operations). Quickslide is
also putting 60 operators through a manual
handling training refresher as part of its
continuous improvement on safety.
The initiative is further evidence of the
company’s commitment to the principles
of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous
Improvement and Quickslide’s long-term
philosophy of becoming ‘the Toyota of the
window industry.’
Quickslide is best-known for its acclaimed
sliding sash windows, and the company has
been instrumental in bringing this former
niche product into the mainstream of the
retrofit and new-build markets, but it also
manufactures a wide range of other styles of
windows and doors for trade and commercial
customers.

Quickslide is setting out
to empower its staff to
be problem solvers with
a series of performance
and improvement courses
via its Quickslide Academy
training programme.
»»Over 70% of the Yorkshire
fabricator’s workforce are taking part in the
initiative, which includes courses up to a year
long, all with the aim of reducing variations
in shop floor and office processes, minimising
waste and improving quality.
Operations Director Michael Connor
explained: “When we say our people are our
most valuable asset, we mean it and we back
that up by investing in them. We are giving
our employees the tools and techniques to
empower them to improve efficiency.
“We want 100 problem solvers throughout
the business, not just two or three at the
top. We are continuously improving our
business through our people to deliver the best
