GLASS&SEALEDUNITS ‘WIN YOUR WINDOWS BACK’ WINNER » » A COUPLE FROM BOGNOR REGIS have become the second winners of the Win Your Windows Back competition from Saint- Gobain Building Glass, winning over £6,000 to cover the cost of their new Planitherm windows. After spending £6256.20 replacing all the upstairs windows of their home, as well as glass in their front and back doors, with Planitherm Energy Standard glass, the couple were encouraged to enter by local Planitherm installation company, Wayne Windows. Saint-Gobain Building Glass is currently running its Win Your Windows Back competition quarterly, where entrants have the chance to win up to £10,000 towards the cost of new high-performance windows, to mark the launch of its revitalised Planitherm Network. A key benefit of the Planitherm Network is the wealth of information on the website and access to sales and marketing tools to help fabricators and installers to start having different conversations with their customers and choose the right glass to meet their changing needs. The Planitherm range has been simplified into three options: Energy Standard for maximum energy efficiency; Comfort, which also offers enhanced security, noise reduction and furniture fade protection; and Comfort Plus for all these benefits plus solar control for sunny rooms. www.planitherm.com DOUBLE WIN ROUNDS OUT ANNIVERSARY YEAR » » MORLEY GLASS & GLAZING HAS ‘done the double’ as it came out on top in not one but two categories at the 2018 National Federation Awards. During the awards’ ‘Winners Week’, Morley was first announced as the winner of the IGU Manufacturer of the Year Award before also coming out on top in the Integral Blinds Company category. The business fought off stiff competition from seven other companies across the two categories, bringing its 20th anniversary year to a fantastic end. 2018 saw the Leeds business double production, increase its delivery fleet, extend its apprenticeship programme and boost its ScreenLine spares service, all while maintaining record growth. New products release by Morley this year include the SL16 blind system, the first integrated blind system that is suitable for use in a 16mm cavity due to its slimline 10mm slats. Morley MD Ian Short has also been able to continue giving back to the community throughout the year, sponsoring over 20 charities including Variety, Community Action to Change Harehills (CATCH) and St Paul’s Church in Morley. www.morleyglass.co.uk Glass centrepeice in Aldi HQ makeover » » ST HELENS BASED GLASS manufacturer Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG Group, has helped to create a three-story structural glass cube as part of a makeover and extension at Aldi’s UK headquarters. Aldi’s £70m investment in the site has added new architectural features to the building’s exterior and created 14,000 sqm of new space. Pilkington, working with Stoas Architects and Bennett Architectural, has delivered the ‘glass cube’ and an external glazed canopy to form the entrance of the building. To create the appearance of unsupported, almost entirely transparent glass surfaces for the walls and roof, the designer specified the Pilkington Planar™ structural glazing system, featuring frameless double-glazed units bolted to a supporting steel frame. Laminated glass is used extensively in the project in both the roof fins and the roof glazing. 56 » JAN 2019 » CL EARVI E W- UK . C O M The roof fins consist of two sheets of 12mm-thick glass with a 1.52mm SentryGlas® interlayer while the cube roof glazing features laminated glass as part of the double-glazed units. The installation creates a welcoming environment; featuring highly transparent glass with a solar control coating. This helps to avoid excessive heat build-up in the space and helps to reduce the need for air conditioning during warm weather.
