DOORS&WINDOWS
Production manager Matthew Le Masurier
said: “The human element of our customer
service team is going to grow, because people
still buy from people. If a customer has, say, a
change of delivery date, they want to talk to a
human being.
“Also, you can’t bottle the type of
camaraderie we have in production.
Workers are keenly aware of every detail on
individual customer orders, right down to
barcode numbers. Keeping that camaraderie,
commitment and can-do mentality will be one
of our biggest challenges in the future.”
DOORS THAT PASS THE TESTS
The DoorCo door offers a high level of
security, with increased resistance to forced
entry, and reinforced GRP skins as standard.
It has passed the rigours of PAS 24 in line
with Approved Document Q. Volume users
looking for the most cost-effective solution or
an alternative specification to meet individual
requirements can order containers from the Korea
facility. The UK distribution centre provides
next day delivery on door blanks from stock and
a four-day service on prepped doors with full
options, including cassette and glass supply from
RegaLead and ODL, as well as bespoke paint
options from the in-house paint line.
COLOURFUL FUTURE
Next year, DOORCO will be developing
again, bringing in a new IT system, a new
door design, and new skills – developing its
talented young employees.
Skills, particularly with technology, is
something at the top of Dan’s agenda. He said:
“The technological skill available is one of the
reasons we are in South Korea, but those skills
are starting to disappear as young people leave
for places like Canada – and there is increasing
automation. Things like wages and health and
safety regulations are much the same in Korea
as here in the UK.”
He is excited about plans for a new door
design. “We want to give customers a ‘Rolls
Royce,’ UK-made GRP door. Why can’t we
make a GRP door with PVCu technology? It
will be a bespoke door. We can all go down
the cheap and cheerful route, but people
who don’t invest in the product and make it
better will fall by the wayside.
“My name has to stand by the product
as we have a 20-year guarantee. When we
supply a door, it needs to be good enough to
‘fit and forget’.”
Meanwhile, trends in doors continue
to move on. Blues, earthy shades and
greens will be bringing a more European,
contemporary feeling to door styling
for 2018, as demand turns to a more
sophisticated palette. DOORCO’s
investment in the Schubox system for
efficient infrared (IR) drying and curing
means that doors will dry in just 30 minutes
compared with three hours.
