Vent Starter Trim » AS THE TILED ROOF CATEGORY is growing, with more installers introducing the product into their offering, and therefore more installations taking place, it is becoming more important to ensure that the design and specifications of the systems meet up to the highest standards So, what lurks beneath those tiles? And what makes the Icotherm system so unique? Anne-Marie Busch, Marketing Manager, explains. Mostly, this product is referred to as a tiled roof, sometimes a warm roof. From my own experience I can say that this has been driven by the need to come up with a descriptive that would best get across what this roof offers. Here at Icotherm we generically refer to our roofs as “solid” as we in fact use two very specific roofing constructions within our range. A cold roof construction: and yes, cold roof does not exactly give all the right feels, hence opting to go for “solid”. But what does it mean? “A cold roof has the thermal insulation layer located between the ceiling joists so that everything above the insulation (rafters, any roof space) will be colder than the living Cross Section 2 54 » F EB 2020 » CL EARVI E W- UK . By using 155mm EPS by name Thermally Efficient 0.16 U-Value Building Control Compliant insulation we ensure that the “cold” from this roof stays well away from the room. On the other hand, you can use a warm roof construction. “I thought all the tiled roofs are “warm”, I hear you say… Well, no… and that is why it is so important to understand that those terms actually have very particular meanings. A warm roof is a type of roof construction which has an insulation layer above the rafters, and immediately below its weatherproof membrane. The illustration (cross section 2) highlights how this works for Icospan, our flat roof solution. By using EPS insulation, both for the flat ceiling section, the ladder frame for the lantern, we have designed a simple to install yet highly effective flat warm roof offering. So in summary the Icotherm roofs use both constructions, to suit specific roof styles. They are specified to the highest levels to guarantee performance:
