Helping to Achieve
a Greener Fleet
»»Fleet managers will
find food for thought in the latest
online flip-book from ‘The Green
Journey’. The newest in the free
guidance series offers real help
for fleets as they face growing
pressure on sustainability.
Steve Clarke, group marketing
manager, Fuel Card Services said:
“We have been working with all
types and sizes of fleets for many
years. Now, we are helping fleet
managers to enjoy the benefits of
our own sustainability experience
in achieving industry-leading
certifications.”
The new edition of The Green
Journey’s Sustainability Updates
begins with a cautionary note
for fleets running diesel cars and
vans. DEFRA has published draft
plans that suggest banning such
vehicles from a number of major
cities.
“The government is not
meeting EU targets on air
quality,” said Steve Clarke, “and
sees diesel vehicles as a target. It
has proposed access controls that
would restrict the movements
of thousands of vans and cars,
without suggesting credible
alternatives.”
The free flip-book also
highlights the newest Cool Earth
rainforest project, urging fleet
managers to join in helping with
the battle against climate change.
As always, the latest issue offers
useful guidance on strategic
sustainability goals, both on
setting targets and implementing
best practice.
Further practical steps are
offered to cover key topics from
tracking exhaust emissions to
reducing fuel consumption.
The Green Journey is the
Fuel Card Services approach to
helping fleet managers to meet
sustainability commitments.
The advice is based on years of
working with fleets, combined
with its own experience
in meeting international
environmental and quality
standards. It remains the
automotive industry’s only
organisation to become an
official partner of Cool Earth,
the leading environmental
charity.

»»The purpose built
commercial building has been
finished in light grey cladding,
supplied through Unique
Windows (IOW) Ltd.
Michael Turner, partner at
Unique Windows said: “The
contractor needed a product
that would give the right
modern, coastal look for the
airport and would be easy to
fit.
“We recommended Kavex
because it is easy to work with
and faster to fit than some other
cladding products.”
The building is completely
clad in light grey Kavex, which
is growing in popularity for
coastal projects.
Keith Hart, business
development manager for
Kestrel, said: “Kavex is popular
in coastal areas and has been
used on a number of domestic
and commercial projects in the
Isle of Wight.
“Not only does it have the
right look, we designed the
product to be easy to use,
which means that there is no
lengthy training process for
contractors.”
Michael Turner added: “Our
sales of Kavex have increased
significantly over the past
year. It is being used on a
variety of projects, from large
commercial developments
through to domestic homes
and even garden offices and
summerhouses.
“The colours are very suited
to coastal areas and provide
weather-proofing that can
stand up to seaside weather
conditions.”
The Kavex range of decorative
cladding is available in both
shiplap and featheredge
versions. It comes in five colours
– white, sand, light grey, light
blue and cream – with a range
of colour matching trims.
Shiplap cladding is available
in a 300mm width as well as
a more traditional 150mm
option, while the featheredge
version comes in a 270mm
width.
